Re: Bitcoin investors are running from the crypto to invest in gold
I posted previously about a variety of use cases for Bitcoin. "What problem do I have that crypto is solving?" See here: https://www.gyroscopicinvesting.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=9673&p=173490#p173490 Here is an interesting take on the "speculation/investment" thesis ...

Re: Bitcoin investors are running from the crypto to invest in gold
I’ve read this chat forum (as a visitor) learning about the PP for 5 or 6 years and now. Everyone loves to tweak the PP for performance juice...a tiny portion of Bitcoin does this. Bitcoin wedges nicely in the speculative 10% portion. Rebalance annually and enjoy the ride. Worst case it goes $0. As...

Re: Bitcoin investors are running from the crypto to invest in gold
I'm sure Bitcoin will come roaring back soon! Just like Beanie Babies! ;) I’m not sure about soon.....my speculation (let’s see how this ages for the sake of fun)....~September 2019 will start a real slow boring new bull run....(bitcoin is dead in the news stories continue).....then mid 2020 will s...

What problem do I have that crypto is solving. Tax avoidance? technov, you should be supporting it then =) I cant know your situation and how Bitcoin might benefit you, but here are some examples of what people are using Bitcoin for. I am not claiming Bitcoin is a perfect solution for each of these...

Re: Harry on Bitcoin
Hard Money : (def) Hard currency, safe-haven currency or strong currency is any globally traded currency that serves as a reliable and stable store of value. I was using the term hard money to refer to its ability to be controlled/inflated by man and thus its stock/flow ratio. By this definition yo...

Re: Harry on Bitcoin
There is no evidence that Bitcoin will ever be stable, and lots of evidence that it will not be. There is also no evidence that it will ever be used to any significant extent in commerce. It is hard for me to think of evidence that could be provided that a nascent technology will achieve its end go...

Re: Harry on Bitcoin
As soon as Bitcoin has 1/10th the track record of gold, I'll consider it. This is reasonable. However you would miss out on the appreciation of bitcoin as it monetizes. At some point bitcoin will be stable. It is at this point that it will be a good unit of account and medium of exchange. So you wi...

Gold is hard money, sure. But Bitcoin is even harder. I don't know where you are getting your drugs... but they are quality. Im open to hearing your viewpoints on the matter and even to educate myself. But seeing platitudes like this is not very useful for anyone. Ive explained why I think that gol...

Re: Harry on Bitcoin
And none of that will mean anything when it is abandoned as being completely worthless. I agree that if Bitcoin is abandoned it will be largely worthless. Why do you think such a thing would happen? What would happen to cause scarce, hard to censor, hard to inflate, hard to confiscate, hard to coun...

Tight Money Coming?
Would like to hear the PPers thoughts on the fact that $50b/mo of liquidity is being taken out of the money supply (fed rolling sheet) combined with the rate hikes. Do you think we are in for a period of tight money? "A period during which the growth of the supply of money in circulation slows ...

It has first mover advantage, the largest current market cap, the best developers, the most hashrate securing it, the largest ecosystem surrounding it, a clear purpose which it has delivered on (hard money), the best monetary policy.

Re: Harry on Bitcoin
Yeah, unfortunately everyone has confused something that was meant to be a currency with an investment/speculation. Even the people running the project now! That is not correct. Bitcoin is becoming money. It needs to gain an insane amount of value per coin in order to become (global) money given it...

Re: Harry on Bitcoin
Bitcoin is the greatest racket since someone started selling pet rocks. Of course when you bought a pet rock, you actually got... a rock. Care to elaborate? Do you encourage hard money, which Bitcoin is attempting to provide? If so, is your concern Bitcoin will not deliver on its promise of hard mo...

Re: Harry on Bitcoin
I think the glaring difference between Bitcoin and Gold Money is that gold is gold, but as we've seen, people have been coming out the woodworks with competing cryptocurrencies. There's a term for this that is escaping me at the moment. I can spin up a cryptocurrency tonight. That does not mean it ...

Thank you, I.L.M. I was talking about this with a former member of this forum. I did google & find one person on reddit who had the same problem, 9 words instead of 12. So, I guess I never lost the 3 words. Seems to be an error on the part of those who issued me the password. In other words, th...

Re: JPMorgan Publishes The "Bitcoin Bible"
Is there a service which can send me email alerts as popular CCs hit price milestones, cross their moving averages, hit new 52 week highs/ lows, etc.? I dont use any such tool, so I cannot make a good recommendation here. Lots of tooling in the space. I see a bunch here: https://www.google.com/sear...

Re: Is the PP going to hold up?
In order to make outsized ('speculative' in the PP sense) gains you need to bet against what most people are saying. And then be right.
The contrarian in me: All these people hating on gold (and tangentially the PP)... gold is due for a rise.

Re: Is the PP going to hold up?
I propose a portfolio which is a traditional permanent portfolio mix with a bitcoin variable portfolio sidecar. Hows: 24% gold 24% cash 24% stocks 24% long term bonds 4% bitcoin Turns out the back testing is amazing. Sure, the backtesting of that portfolio would be amazing at this point. It would b...

Re: Is the PP going to hold up?
The only temporary issue I have with this downturn is the rapidity of the paper loss. I was at 2.66% up on 1/25, here we are 15 days later and I am -2.81% down. The PP is mitigating the downturn, but it is still a painful 5.5% turn negative. Finally, someone coming to my point of view. PP has provi...
