Re: Stocks for sell time horizon in May? (High school Economics project)

Hey, guys, I think I actually posted a question like this years ago when my older son was at a school that did this exercise, but now my younger son is doing it (in the same type of school) and I'm interested to hear y'all's take. Okay, so here's the exercise, and it is NOT PP friendly (not my faul...

Re: Figuring Out Religion

Did a man called Jesus of Nazareth walk the earth? Discussions over whether the figure known as the “Historical Jesus” actually existed primarily reflect disagreements among atheists. I haven't read anything by the author of that piece but I have read Richard Carrier, who is mentioned in the articl...

That is false. It's called convexity. Look it up.
From the wiki..... The part where it says "Then it is easy to see" is a hoot.

Re: Steady last two weeks

I see a headline saying stocks are on the longest losing streak, 9 days, since 1980. So I checked my portfolio. Looks basically unchanged from a week or two ago. Have stocks gone down much? Bonds or gold gone up? I saw that headline too but when I see something like that it tells me NOT to look at ...

I adopted the Golden Butterfly in January which meant balancing to 20% which actually meant buying more at the time because I was down to almost 15%. Pretty sure I'm not > 25% now and doubt that I ever was even when gold reached its peak for the year. It was doing very well but so was everything els...

Re: American Solidarity Party

But since this is political, you have to question the motives behind what they claim to be saying, i.e. second order derivative. You can't just take what they say at face value as the functionally objective truth, especially when they will wield the coercive force in hand and weakness corrupts abso...

Re: American Solidarity Party

A strange mixture of both far left and right positions. I'm not too keen on the idea of "raising consciousness of the Christian worldview." , so I doubt they would ever get my vote. I'm a big fan of the "increasingly secularized" world that they are bemoaning, preferring to keep ...

Re: FBI REOPENS HILLARY INVESTIGATION

This could get really ugly if Hillary wins and gets sworn in as president while under criminal investigation by the FBI. I can see another Saturday Night Massacre and a possible constitutional crisis in the works. But does any of this really surprise anybody with the Clintons? Even if this one blows...

I read that the laptop in question was mostly used by Weiner's 4 year old son to play video games and that Huma had no idea how thousands of emails got on it.

Can these people really be trusted with national security?

Re: FBI REOPENS HILLARY INVESTIGATION

A quote from Jonah Goldberg of NR that I very much agree with.... But in all of the arguments and counter-arguments about whether Comey is right or wrong, principled or cynical, something important is lost in the conversation: This is all Hillary Clinton’s fault. She did this. She and her husband ha...

Did you notice the word Christian? Not in the quote from John Adams which was what I was commenting on. (And I did read the article, BTW. I generally always do before making a comment). I'm further guessing you are voting for Hillary? The democratic party play book seems to say to always take thing...

Re: Sophie--did you see the medicare reimbursement changes?

From the article.... The ultimate — and undeniably laudable — goal of the legislation is to base physician payments on the value of the care patients receive, rather than the volume of services provided. I can see how they could quantify "volume of services provided", but how in the heck d...

Re: Massive Internet Attack Strikes America

Reminds me of the massive internet outage we had at work a few months before they laid me off. All the network folks were saying it was a Denial Of Service attack that we weren't properly prepared for. It turned out that somebody entered the wrong command to switch out a router.

Re: Feds Warn Us That Evidence Of Election Fraud Could Be Russian Fraud

When Hillary said in the last debate that 17 different intelligence agencies had confirmed that the Russians were responsible for something on the internet (I forget what it was - the Wikileaks hacks?) why didn't somebody ask her to name the 17 agencies? And if she could, a perfect follow up would h...
