Re: 30 Year Treasury Rate at 2.80%
I do hold PRPFX in a taxable account. By my calculations, PRPFX's last dividend in 2011 was about 0.9%, and long term capital gains was about 0.6%. About 2/3 of dividends are from US treasury securities, which should be exempt from state and local taxes, correct? EDV pays dividends of about 4% an...

Re: 30 Year Treasury Rate at 2.80%
Every "expert" that I hear on TV and radio has been saying that LTT's are a reckless and dangerous investment and they have all been wrong. When I set up my 4x25 PP, I got a friendly series of phone calls from Fidelity asking if I needed investment advice. I think they thought I was nuts...

Re: Advice Needed
He still doesn't have insurance??? He needs to get a policy, urgently. If something happens now and he is uninsured, he won't be able to protect that settlement money. High deductible is fine, but ask a lot of questions about the pre-existing condition exclusions. It could still leave coverage ga...

Re: Advice Needed
I hate to have to bring this up but....that money needs to be protected for some other very good reasons. First, he may have future health problems from the injuries you describe - annoyances mainly, but problems nonetheless. Second, he now has a pre-existing condition. IMO this is Obamacare's be...

Re: I'm Done!
Quote from: Tortoise on May 11, 2012, 07:06:15 PM If we assume stocks, long bonds, and gold are all declining over a sustained period of time, that basically means people are piling into cash, and I would argue that prices must therefore be falling throughout the economy. But that's the definition ...

Re: I'm Done!
What a great thread!!! Gumby, you should charge for your charting service. Buddtholomew, I can sympathize and so can a lot of other people here. No one can say it isn't demoralizing to watch one's hard earned money shrinking on a daily basis. But in the grand scheme of things, is this "doing ...

Re: Advice on implementing a PP in multiple retirement plans
TIAA's annuity fund is effectively an insurance plan that guarantees the principle and pays at least a given rate of interest depending on the plan (3% in this case). How liquid is this cash? If one of the other asset classes crashed today, how accessible would the cash be for rebalancing purpose...

Re: Advice on implementing a PP in multiple retirement plans
I would probably go 50/50 with EDV and VUSTX. I might even consider using just EDV. I don't think that you should count VUSTX as cash. It's not cash. VFISX is a reasonable choice for cash, though. I found the answer to my question, in the long thread on the bogleheads forum: http://www.boglehea...

Re: Advice on implementing a PP in multiple retirement plans
Thanks. I went and looked at VUSTX more closely. I'd thought it should behave like a combination of long term bonds and cash, because of the shorter duration, but that doesn't seem to be the case. That must be the 20% of that fund that is something other than long treasuries. Anyway, I figured ...

Re: Advice on implementing a PP in multiple retirement plans
Thanks, that is probably pretty good advice. Jigsaw time. TIAA's annuity fund, by the way, serves very well for the cash allotment. I would probably go 50/50 with EDV and VUSTX. I might even consider using just EDV. I don't think that you should count VUSTX as cash. It's not cash. VFISX is a r...

Advice on implementing a PP in multiple retirement plans
I know this topic has come up before, but can anyone offer suggestions on how to deal with some retirement account conundrums? I've much appreciated all the thoughtful/insightful comments on this forum, and it's helped me decide to jump from holding PRPFX to converting part of my retirement portfol...
