Re: 2022 Returns
I was close for LTTs. 16.7% But now they are going up.
Might be missing out or maybe not if Feds increase the rates again this year.
Would be nice to be able to time this but... We do not do market timing, don't we? :-)

Re: Help a newbie to trust the PP
Hello, I have increased my assets through company sales and real estate sales this year. After some consideration, I have now built a European Permanent Portfolio last month. I live in Germany. The portfolio consists of: - Developed Europe Stock ETF - German Gov Bond (2050) - German Gov Bond (2023)...

Re: The GOLD scream room
Wow, when did gold creep up into the 1700s On the downside...bonds, stocks and gold are all moving in lock step. As of late we are getting zilch diversification. Had to bring in some shade on the little ray of light I introduced. :-) Bonds still should go down if the feds keep bumping up the rates....

What is this about? Is there some new bogus affecting our PP investments?dopplerdave wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 11:03 am I have been using VTI, TLT, SHY and IAU for my PP but do not want to support the wokeness of Blackrock and Vanguard. Are there altenative ETFs that are not into the ESG movement?
Could someone explain please?

Re: When is it time to load up on bonds.
My grandparents were of the depression generation. They never had really high paying jobs nor did they ever invest a penny into the stock market or real estate etc. However, they did retire with a pretty good nestegg thanks to thrifty savings and also the fact that they saved most of their money in...

I just accidentally discovered that 48oz of gold = 88,888.88 USD. 60oz is 111,11 As mathematicians say - we are in the same basket of equivalence - I am also counting hours/days to return back home from Germany, not much to do here anymore ... ;D By the way - with regards to inflation - yesterday a...

Re: Is This a Tight-Money Recession?
I take solace in the fact that markets don't always react immediately (IIRC, in March of 2020 it seemed like everything was crashing, but then bonds and gold started to come back before stocks did and it was a great time to rebalance). Patience, grasshopper! :-) Maybe it was good time to rebalance ...

Re: Is This a Tight-Money Recession?
I think so too. I found this quote from review of book: https://taylorpearson.me/bookreview/fail-safe-investing/ Stocks take advantage of prosperity. They tend to do poorly during periods of inflation, deflation, and tight money, but over time those periods don’t undo the gains that stocks achieve ...

I missed rebalancing last time on the wake of pandemics. Missed by 2-3% because I was sticking to 15/35% :-)

Re: The GOLD scream room
Hmm. This is now a good problem to have! Most of my gold is physical. How do I actually take advantage of this? Am I buying puts on GLD as a method of rebalancing? Mine is all IAU... Good, bad or ugly. But a bit easier to move around than physical. Well, while ETFs are still an option, till SHTF an...

Re: The GOLD scream room
My 4x25 HBPP gold is about 28%. Should I rebalance at 30% or wait for possible 35%, as 15/35% my rebalance bands. I'm in the same boat/been wondering the same thing. I wish I had rebalanced out of bonds right after the COVID market shift as some here did, so hoping to take advantage the volatility ...

Last post for ppnewbie. Run far away ppnewbie, the PP is a lifetime of disappointment. I was in Analytics/BI for 15 years at a Fortune 300 company so I understand your mental makeup. The agnostic nature of the portfolio sounds great on the surface but you lose to equities on the upside and there is...

PP hurting bad. Gold and LTT’s cannibalizing each other to the downside as rates rise. Sucks for sure. Budd, you never answered my question from a few days ago on when you got into the portfolio, and what your expectations were at that time? I setup a taxable PP in 2010. Took literally that one or ...

If people are concerned about maintaining a clean, well-lit place to educate others about the PP, perhaps there should be a separate Permanent Portfolio Skepticism forum.
