Are PPers "statists" because they hold 50%  in gov't securities? (cash / LTT)

Re: Obama's give 25% to charity

I'll give credit where credit is due.  I can respect someone calling for higher taxes more if they "put there money where there mouth is" as Obama did in this case.  Often times, it's the opposite and the guys calling for higher taxes giver very sparingly to charitable causes. Btw, Romney...

Those are some good observations. But I like Harry Browne's rules more. Really the best advice you can give someone of a very general nature is to index, keep fees and expenses as low as possible, stay diversified (which means holding more than just bonds and stocks), reinvest dividends, avoid trad...

This is really encouraging...that power will go from bureaucrats, teachers unions, school districts...and be shifted where it belongs...in the hands of those who care most for children...the parents.

Re: Cyprus: 10% Savings confiscation

The US did default briefly in 2011 when the Republicans tried to hold the debt ceiling hostage.  Default in 2011? How so...all debt payments (Treasury coupons) were made. No? Don't know what you refer to. However, you are right...the US has defaulted at least two times in the 20th century. -FDR dev...

i wish for further real estate deleveraging/collapse...buy when theres "blood in street" and all that.

a good start would be to end the mortgage deduction and abolish fannie/freddie. I don't like subsidizing property speculators/investors.

I agree...this is shocking.

Is there any precedent for this action?

In Cyprus...they don't control the currency...so this is viewed as a way out since they can't devalue the currency?

Should overseas gold-holding be rethought?

The premise of this essay is that the US gov't can and likely will get the gold in overseas holdings (I'm extending this to Goldmoney, Perth Mint, etc. )

Is this fear-mongering?

Can this occur under existing laws in the US?

Corporations, well off and upper middle class are in deflationary phase. Large savings and reduced debts. Meanwhile, government entities, low income and emerging markets are in an inflationary phase. Low savings and increasing debts. I find this an insightful comment...something I hadn't considered...

hi ChinaBull...which broker do you use for foreign holdings?

Also, do you use ETFs / mutual funds in foreign brokerage acct? I ask because it seems that this can create many difficulties with the US IRS.

Re: What economic cycle are we in right now?

What do others think about my point earlier on holding 50% cash (for those who are highly LTT averse)? A PP with 50% cash/STTs has some of the upside protection in a deflationary environment (in real terms) with much less downside risk in inflationary environment. Greater volatility? Is your plan t...
