Re: Goldmart Password Storage
Most merchant checkout systems do hash your password (with MD5) before storage. I would be surprised if they store it unencrypted, though there are quite a few exploits for MD5 - which is why you should use different passwords for different sites and not use the same password on a shopping site that...

Re: Replace a part of gold with gold miners?
I bought a small amount of GDX in my VP recently. I think its a very volatile fund, but that's why its in my VP. Honestly for me it looks like a short term play - betting some of the likely market volatility this fall may drive GDX a bit higher in the coming months. However, I'm not considering i...

Re: Storing Physical Gold?
Thanks, Agree that silver makes more sense for small emergencies, and also agree it makes more sense to store large quantities outside the home, in the bank or an account of some kind. Given all of that - most of us still have some valuables (jewelry, important papers, small emergency stash, ba...

Storing Physical Gold?
How do you prefer to store your physical gold (or silver)? Some options I've considered: 1 - Safety deposit box? 2 - Large (600lb anchored) fire safe (i.e. gun safe) at home? 3 - Hidden or common object diversion safes? Option 1 seems to be favored, but I like the idea of being able to keep at leas...

Re: I am out!
I've been taking the contrarian approach - I'm buying in! Since the PP is down 6-7% this year and this has only happened a handful of times in the last 40 years it looks like a golden opportunity to buy! The odds seem pretty small that the PP will finish the year with a bigger loss than it did in 1...

Invest it all now or invest in PP over time?
I've been just starting to invest in the PP, having been burned before by the big downswings in 1987, 2000, 2008. I've read the PP book, looked at a variety of alternatives (Boglehead, 60/40, 80/20, Gone fishing, etc...) and read those books too! I'm thinking of going "all in" on the PP co...
