Fee based financial advisors (for wife if she survives me)
I'm finally getting around to writing up some guidance for my wife, should I die before her. I used to read a lot on Bogleheads, and recall there was a company which built its own proprietary index funds, and used a network of fairly reasonably priced fee advisors. I want to say maybe Rick Ferri and...

Re: The official end of Swiss bank secrecy
There has to be a lot of concerned account holders around the world right now. I would think.
Thankfully I don't have that problem, lol.

The official end of Swiss bank secrecy
Even though it was trending this way, I'm still pretty surprised they have decided to change their ancient tradition and laws. Short article:

Re: Reducing the 50% US Dollar allocation Exposure? Reason for 3x33
I agree with Desert. Although, I have diversified into intl bonds for the past several years. Probably not worth it, at least not if things go bad. I do see the concern over how to hold gold securely. Each method of holding gold has some risk, and/ or costs quite a bit to mitigate the risk. Still, ...

Does tax efficiency matter to the investors in question? If so, is Wellesley tax efficient, or not as efficient as a pair of index funds?

Shilling has been right on bonds for something like 30 years. I have made good money by believing him, well before the PP.

Re: Out of balance
I don't have any new money going in. I have high unrealized gains. My non-US stock fund is about 50% gains, my SP500 is 70% gains. (I tax-loss-harvested big time in 2009.) On one hand, Budd, I'm inclined to let it ride because as you say, the tax hit is just about as bad as what would likely happen ...

Re: Out of balance
We're in a little equity melt-up here. If you are somewhat close to rebalancing, I'd take my stocks back to policy percentages soon, before the opportunity is lost. Be fearful when others are greedy, be greedy when others are fearful. The question I have to address is, are we looking at balances of...

I am overweight stocks and underweight gold.
Stocks are split between SP500 and Intl.
Using short term bond funds instead of cash.
I haven't checked lately but they should all still be within the 15-35% bands.

Re: How much is "enough" in the Permanent Portfolio?
I (we) have Enough x 2 or 3. It’s a great feeling. I recall reading maybe Bill Bernstein saying that Bill Gates could afford to be 100% stocks. It was probably in his booklet “Deep Risk”. I tend to agree with Tyler. OTOH when you get to a big number, you start thinking about kids, grandkids, charity...

Overseas wire tracking (eg Manafort)
I am amazed that the wire transfers into the US by entities of Paul Manafort didn’t attract immediate scrutiny. Why would that be? Because it looked like foreign ownership?

Re: The GOLD scream room
I seldom look at my PP or its components.
I guess because my buy in of gold was below 800, I see it differently. If the current prices are waffling back and forth between a paper loss and gain, I can see how that would keep you worked up. I am in gold for the long, long run.

I bet in several years we will look back at this and laugh about how weak and vulnerable the electronic transaction system was. The various financial entities wanted to make it painless for consumers, but that is now backfiring. In the future we will have to have some sort of physical verification. ...

We have about a 50/50 split in stocks between SP500 and non-US EAFE. It looks like this year it finally worked for the better.

I've never been interested in seeing Mt. Rushmore. I guess I better see it before it is blown up.
As I read somewhere else today, what about the Roman Coliseum? Slaves were abused there. Slave owners were entertained there. Blow it up too.

I call him The Accidental President.
I don't think he thought he would win anything. He hooked a whale and couldn't let go as it pulled him into the abyss. By this time he must be thinking what the hell did I do?
I can go along with it being tragicomedy, for sure.

Re: The political re-alignment of our time
I read a blog post today that made some sense regarding Trump's drastic change. Namely, suggesting that "they" truly have something big on him, or have otherwise shown him what could they could make go wrong for him personally. Of course it's just an idea, a conspiracy theory to boot, but ...
