Would a low duration TIPS ETF work as part of the cash segment?

Being dissatisfied with the lack of performance on cash segment of the PP, I came upon this article: http://www.wiserinvestor.com/lower-duration-for-better-inflation-protection/ What I get from this article is that the Pimco 1-5 yr. US Tip Index Fund- ETF= STPZ, which has a low duration= 2.5 years m...

Re: I realize why some people love TIPS

From craigr: "There is a case to be made for using them for the cash allocation (but better than a simple T-Bill? Not so sure.). However the idea of buying inflation insurance from the people causing inflation is a conflict of interest that an investor just can't ignore." Hi Craig, What IS...

Re: Dumb Ways to Hurt Yourself

Moda,

I'm in the camp of thinking we should make our own decisions on all matters including money, health, relationships and matters of the spirit. Not that we shouldn't listen to the "experts" just that we have to see everything clearly through our own eyes.  ;)

Re: Dumb Ways to Hurt Yourself

Hi MT, I hope you heal up soon. I'm reminded of a time 20 years ago when I was 46, working as an outside technician for Ma Bell. I stepped hard off a ladder, landed wrong and fractured my fibula above my left ankle. I was angry at the time and was very distracted having found out I had just been a r...

Re: Sheared by the Shorts

I don't see any constructive value, to the market, of Naked Short Selling as it's being presented in the article...It just appears to be a huge manipulation to churn stocks and create short term profit by big players  at the expense of the shareholders, companies and average buy and hold investor. F...

Re: BAC - Turkey or undervalued?

Great South Park episode, Gumby. I bank at a credit union. I don't pay for checking or ATM transactions. I earn a small amount of interest on my checking and have a no fee 1% rebate Master Card with them which they automatically credit to my account once a year. (I also have a AAA Chase rebate card ...

Sheared by the Shorts

I found this article to be revealing, although it may be old news to some. Any comments?  :-\ Sheared by the Shorts: How Short Sellers Fleece Investors "Why did gold and silver stocks just get hammered, at a time when commodities are considered a safe haven against widespread global uncertainty...

Re: "GDP" is Complete Nonsense.

Here's a quote from Robert F. Kennedy about GNP taken from a speech he gave in 1968: And this is one of the great tasks of leadership for us, as individuals and citizens this year.  But even if we act to erase material poverty, there is another greater task, it is to confront the poverty of satisfac...

Re: American Jobs act

Wow. I'm very impressed with the level of thought and dialog being presented in this forum...I've heard it said that what we need to consider is not just the type of government or economic structure we labor under but rather the integrity of the people who are making important decisions.

Re: How long did it take you to adopt the PP after hearing about it?

I took me about a year or less to move into a HBPP. Interestingly, the way I found out about the PP was on a financial blog talking about PCRIX. I thought investing in commodities would be a good thing. I read that Larry Swedrowe had recommended this fund as a way to diversify. I bought some PCRIX i...

Federal Reserve Selling Put Options On Treasury Bonds

Here's something that might spell trouble ahead:
FRAUD: Federal Reserve Is Selling Put Options On Treasury Bonds To Drive Down Yields

I'm wondering what the implications to this are for the the PP. :-\
