Re: Daily "Check In" Thread For Us

It’s funny reading the above because I came here to ask if you enjoyed last night’s ball game, Vin.
I just saw the highlights on the news.

That's right. I stopped when I moved overseas. Spent a few years overseas and when I came back to the U.S., I always lived in big cities.
Nowadays, if I *really* need a car I take a taxi, Lyft or Uber.

Re: Daily "Check In" Thread For Us

Doesn’t sound like a fun day O0 A lot of people don’t really cement directions until they drive, even if they pay attention as passengers. I learned my route to work and back, and a few other routes, but I haven’t driven in decades. As a pedestrian, I still have a poor sense of direction and orienta...

Re: Daily "Check In" Thread For Us

Completely tangential: your mention of Meet the Press reminded me of the music "The Mission" by John Williams. It was commissioned by NBC News in 1985. The first movement contains the iconic trumpet fanfare used for the nightly news, and the fourth and final movement was (still is?) used ...

Re: Daily "Check In" Thread For Us

I can’t read on the bus either. I get carsick. I can only imagine how many books you’ve read in 70+ years. By the time I got my driver's license I was lost 1 mile from my house because as soon as I got in the family car my head went down to read and it did not come up until we got to the destinatio...

Re: Quiet board - time to buy?

I feel like this applies to all portfolios. Once you have a ridiculous amount of money, perhaps some amounts should be specific minimum $(Euro) amounts and not necessarily %. Some very wealthy people purportedly keep all stocks and can live off the dividend payments. At that point I’d rather have a...

Re: Quiet board - time to buy?

… issue for me with bitcoin is that of being passed "dirty" coins - historic trail of having been used for illicit purposes or tax avoidance ...etc - resulting in the value being lost/frozen/seized. I wonder if that has actually happened. So far, search results say that bitcoins are gener...

Re: Linux, continued

There used to be this sweet Linux replacement for ChromeOS on Chromebooks called GalliumOS.

I really liked it until I realized I couldn’t get it to connect with wifi, even after investing in a dongle and getting a bit of help from the author who sang Gallium’s praises 😭

Re: Quiet board - time to buy?

Yeah, I mean if the extreme duration of long bonds is supposed to swoop in and save you when 1 or 2 other assets are plummeting and give you a smoother ride (favorable ulcer index at Tyler’s Portfolio Charts website), BND is not going to help. But, the recent post on b’heads notwithstanding (“BND st...

Re: Quiet board - time to buy?

I guess in a severe inflationary scenario it could be considered playing with fire? versus 30-year treasury bonds, though? Aren’t 30YR’s for deflation? It’s also higher than I ever dreamed or expected, even after this 5-6% hit.

Behold, some miners that I was required to buy for Dad per his newsletter. (They’re all still up overall, though).
