Check out the recent (and rare) interview he did with an Australian accountant. I believe it was granted because Armstrong's father was an auditor.

Re: Dining out with a group: an ethics question
It sounds to me like the 5th wheel noticed the inequity and wanted to make it up by treating everyone to drinks at her expense. In a culture where the man is dominant, even a pretense is enough to put off a woman submissive, especially one who had already been dominated by another man just previou...

Turns out I'm just a few weeks older than Medium Tex (and yet I've accomplished so little, but there we are. )
I'm enjoying my forties so far, and I hope you are too. I just wish I had learned of the pp in my 20s or 30s.
Oh, yeah: iPad. Good stuff.

Re: What goal do you pursue with your Variable Portfolio
By the way...what's the difference between the first question and the second? I think the second one implies no illusion that the HBPP ( or broad market) will be consistently beaten :) and yet, speculators gotta speculate. I guess some of my holdings, like iRobot stock, fall into this category.

That's a good alternative. Alas, my friends are terrible cooks. Maybe we should get take-in. There is a couple who's fair about everything but the huge amount of alcohol they consume. I try to steer them toward BYOBs. hoost, the good news is that they're out-of-towners and my wife is not very emotio...

The v in my vp may as well stand for vestigial. I keep it around for the dividends but if by some freak of nature it outperforms the pp, I'll trim shares and turn that into more gold, cash, etc. I also have munis in the vp. I want to own them, and they don't have any place in the pp.
So: INCOME.

Do you really care if they would be offended? And why should they be? JMHO I guess my problem is that I seem to care at the critical moment. ;-) I care a lot less during my morning of regret. And, I agree with you about the closeness of the other party: with closer friends, it's really not an issue...

Dining out with a group: an ethics question
I admit that I'm the type of person that gets riled up at perceived slights -- people barging in line or interrupting at outdoor food markets; telemarketers calling me about reducing my interest rates who, when I tell them I have no loans and would like to get off their call list, immediately discon...

Besides, Singapore is too small to hold us all and could be wiped out by a single natural disaster. Furthermore, the trains smell like durian -- I guess the "No Durian" signs are only for visitors -- and I wouldn't enjoy being called "Lao Wai" for the rest of my life. Nice place ...

Singapore is going to become the world's richest country by 2050. How will you afford to relocate and live there after the USA turns into a third world banana republic and your PP was decimated by 75% ... On your to-do list, above "Move to Singapore", you have "Move to Dubai" c...

I really like Rick Ferri.
I feel the same as Pointed S: I would love to see his prediction come true. I'd run, not walk, to my local gold coin guy.

What Lone Wolf said.
I thought the only "flaw" of the pp was the trade-off- the lean years of watching our friends with tech-stock heavy portfolios beat us for 12 months. Sacrificing occasional superior returns I can do. I don't plan to go broke.

In other words, even though it has been working great for 40 years we think it's about to stop working, and even though it relies on a static asset allocation for its success we are going to monkey around with the allocation to try to improve upon it. That's right. It doesn't make much sense to execute an ultra-risky heist that will net you a couple of car titles, a few ounces of dusty family jewelry, some wills, and a huge pile of birth certificates. Re: I still don't understand why you need to hold physical gold
Can anyone give me some examples where physical gold would be useful as opposed to holding a gold ETF? Physical gold just doesn't seem to be worth the extra time and hassle - even if we degrade down to a Mad Max type scenario, food, guns, and energy would likely be far more valuable than physical ...
