Very good. However, if the guy had endorsed Trump, and Trump reacted the same as Biden, I think we all know how the coverage would slant.

Re: Why Portland?
Here is an insightful post by Steve Sailer, Unz Review. The parts after the bold are a bit specious. But the basic point is probably right as to Why Portland? Why has Detroit been so calm during the Summer of George while Portland has been so riotous? Detroit is the blackest big city, while Portland...

Re: Could gold ever be banned again?
Well they could decide to back the dollar with gold at a higher price than now. Say $5000. The good news is your gold is now worth $5000. The bad news is, turn it over in exchange for dollars, or else.
This would be a dollar devaluation scenario.

Re: Biden/Harris Discussion
Regarding real estate, the goal is often to have a tax loss while being cash flow positive. The magic ingredient is depreciation, which reduces taxable income but doesn't cost cash. Depreciation is additive to cash flow, in a sense. So: Income 100 Cash expenses 50 Depreciation 60 Net income -10 Cas...

Re: Biden/Harris Discussion
I was looking to do this as a poll, but don't see how. So anyway... Do you think Biden is a stand in for another person? Do you think this is a hard plan? If so, is Biden in on it? Or is it more that there is enough likelihood of health issues that there are contingency plans in place? Is Harris par...

I am waiting to see how long it takes before these moronic officials finally stand up to the BLM/Antifa. https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2020/08/19/portland-official-as-city-burns-there-is-a-violent-and-tragic-history-of-oppressio...

Re: You guys know how to fix water hammer?
Usually the solution is to have a stub of pipe sticking upwards from a tee in the line. I don't know how long it should be, but I suppose a foot or two would be nice. When the line gets pressurized, that stub will contain trapped air under pressure. It will cushion the shock of shutting off a fauce...

Re: The death of nominal bonds? Implications for the PP?
One thing that rattles around in my head is that if I have to choose between loaning money to a government at zero or worse, or buying gold instead, well, that's a no brainer. I'd sure as heck rather own the good stuff. I have to think Mr. Bond Market will have the final say on zero and negative yie...

Re: Question: Rebalancing - Dick and Jane Version.
My PP is almost all in taxable investments. If I sell something, I pay taxes. Because of that, I use wide bands, at least 15% -35%. So far, so good. I think I remember that Wm Bernstein's Seven Pillars of Investing book had a lot of good structural advice about rebalancing, tax loss harvesting, and ...

Re: POLL: How did you overcome the fear of tracking error?
I would have a hard time buying in today. Because I'm a chicken. But over time, I'm in the same camp as Smith and Mark. I no longer pay attention to tracking error. My PP has a beautiful track record to look back on, and it makes me feel good. My answer would be to dollar cost average into it over a...

It has become clear that they are attacking Portland because the officials are on their side. Which is sort of crazy, to attack a city that's on your side. But whatever, have at it.

I sure hope we don’t see LTT yields below 1%. It might not break the PP but it would sure test my resolve. Intuitively I think reducing the duration would not be of much real world benefit. This comment is worth what you paid for it.
