Re: I think it’s time to move into crypto

After doing a decent amount of research, I came to the conclusion that this is a WILDLY speculative "thing" at the moment, its potentially very centralized, valuations are potentially fraud, etc, etc...Its very early but like you said, its likely going to be a big part of our future. There...

Re: ID.me

Hey thanks for bringing this topic up. I had a notice that I needed to put child tax credits on my current tax return. I did not recall receiving the tax payments. I called the IRS and they said in order to get information I needed to login. In order to login I needed to set up an ID.me account. In ...

Re: Next up on the planned crisis list

Russia is going to invade Ukraine on Tuesday at 3pm!!! Meanwhile EU countries have not pulled their embassy workers and the President of Ukraine seems very relaxed, while Putin is laughing at the west. "MOSCOW, February 16. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has joking...

Re: The GOLD scream room

I always have the opposite reaction when gold moves sharply. I get nervous. It feels like plate tectonics. It's so big and such an unseen part part of humanity. When it moves everyone is going to feel it.

Re: Using LEAP Puts as insurance

I don't thinks on the Options contract stuff purchased with cash. The three outcomes I believe are: You sell the option You exercise the option - IE sell the stock to the counter party at the agreed upon price. The option expires and you lose the money you paid. I am researching a company called Con...

Re: Using LEAP Puts as insurance

If you have a mix of stocks that generally move (in aggregate) along with SPY, then puts on SPY are fine insurance if you are trying to protect against a crash. You don't need to hold SPY specifically. I assume that if the market crashed, you would cash out the puts, since you wouldn't be holding a...

Re: Using LEAP Puts as insurance

Disclaimer: I know next to nothing about options. 9% seems like a steep insurance premium for a year or two. How much coverage does it buy? If your "SPY" goes down 50%, how much will the options generate? If SPY went down 50% the option would be worth ~220k I think. I am actually going to...

Re: Bank Bonuses

My understanding of the question was, which will be worth something in 30 years: the I-bonds you buy today or the Bitcoin? Treasury might well discontinue the I-bonds, but they won't renege on the existing ones. Meanwhile, what will the value of Bitcoin be? The nice thing about ibonds is that the w...

Re: Using LEAP Puts as insurance

The other question is how critical is it to own the underlying stock? I own a junk yard of stocks that basically equal SPY but…it is not SPY. Is the put insurance in itself with its price appreciation or is being able to exercise the option the insurance? Sorry for these annoying questions!

Re: Using LEAP Puts as insurance

Does anyone know of good tutorials on Long Term Puts. I priced out two year puts on 1 contract for SPY and it was approximately 4400 per contract. Only thing is I have no idea what the hell I am doing. I don't know if I can choose any contract if I like want to choose that price. Do I have to worry...

Re: A cheap version of Universa Investments

Sounds like you have been trying to find way to hedge your taxable stock. Do you have retirement accounts that you can use to balance it with gold and bonds? Would your taxes be so bad if you just sold a little to increase your cash to comfortable level? Good questions. I created a GB in my 401k bu...

What are your thoughts on what the Fed should do? Please don't take that as a smart comeback. I actually am interested in your thoughts because this seems like a very difficult problem. With inflation, a large part of the population suffers, the dollar starts a death spiral and with it the US Empir...

Re: Emergency Fed Meeting Scheduled for Monday

Housing alone is up tremendously. Both in purchase prices and in rents. Rents are nuts right now. Food, up a lot. Bacon is often $10 a pound. Fuel, up a lot. Cars and trucks are at unimaginable levels. Clothing seems to be up at some places, but probably not much overall. But yeah, other than housi...
