Re: Figuring Out Religion

That said, from interpreting your response, I'd say "science" might be your god and you want it or depend on it to be able to explain pretty much everything from the material world to the "faith - in the broadest sense" world.  Guess that's true, though I'd say I don't really &q...

Re: Figuring Out Religion

Moved this answer here from the evolution thread. To refresh you, a god is what you put your trust and identity in or derive meaning and security from; when you worship at the throne of envionmentalism or evolution, that is your religion.  In our postmodern culture, those who put their trust in the...

Doesn't everyone resist those .... until they have the 'big one'?

Then it evolves to be called unnatural succumbing (in Finland).  ;)

Re: Evolution discussion

Dualstow, I think I'll go with the Dawkins book, even though I'm pretty sure I'd enjoy the Hitchens book more.  It seems like Dawkins is the leading voice for evolution these days.  Correct me if I'm wrong... He's up there. Watchmaker is not a new book, but I think it will be revered as a classic. ...

Surely, you do not mean your home is evolving?  Was it not created to acceptable long-lasting standards? :o

Re: Evolution discussion

Mountaineer, It's a scientific theory. Not a hypothesis. :) There is a difference.  I'll have more to say later but am swamped. Sticking strictly to "evolution", it seems it is more of a "scientific hypothesis" than a "scientific theory" but I am certainly no expert on...

Re: Figuring Out Religion

Luckily hell is only temporary: Is The Devil In Charge Of Hell? Yes, indeed, the Bible specifically teaches that hellfire will go out and that there will not be left "a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it." The Bible also teaches that in God's new kingdom all "former things&qu...

Too bad we Christians are not perfect spellers or proof readers like the "dark siders".  Dark siders? What are we, Satanists?  :D Nah, we're just Dawks-siders. The day is not over yet, but you are in a commanding lead for the "Hoot of the Day" award!  ;D ... Mountaineer

P.S. You could always watch Hitchens debate Rev Al Sharpton on youtube. He destroys. My 11 year old granddaughter might be able to destroy Sharpton ... no offense to the Sharpton lovers.  ;) Never mind Sharpton's half of the debate. Hitchens destroys intransitively. He's a pleasure to listen to. So...

Re: Evolution discussion

Is evolution the right answer?  If it's wrong, the right answer certainly isn't "God did it". And you absolutely positively know this how?  The right answer certainly could be "God did it" if God did indeed did do it.  It seems to me the answer "God did it" is a valid ...

Re: Evolution discussion

I don't want to derail from evolution, but briefly: OK if you wish to believe that.  But I still don't understand how that makes it "right" to rule out "God did it" as an alternative to evolution. Think of it this way: if you have to rule out everything proposed that cannot be d...
