Interesting post in Bogleheads: Unread postby asset_chaos » Fri Apr 11, 2014 9:38 pm BHP Billiton continues to postpone investing in the expansion of Olympic Dam, one of the largest copper-gold-uranium-silver complexes ever found. They say publically in disclosures to the stock exchange that it's be...

I'm not sure if they're taking over the world, but Google has enormous influence in the advancement of technology and have shown that they have ZERO concern for the privacy of their customers. Oh no, they have a substantial concern for our privacy. Unfortunately, it doesn't dovetail with our concer...

Remember the spy plane incident with China in the early 2000s (or maybe 2000?) Seems like yesterday.

Google Buys Drone Maker Titan Aerospace
Note this line: Google said the Titan team will work closely with Google's Project Loon, which is building large, high-altitude balloons that send Internet signals to areas of the world that are currently not online. That reads rather like the science fiction novel, Singularity Sky . Neat! http://on...

U.S. Navy to Test Electromagnetic Rail Gun by 2016
Live. From a ship. Originally, I was going to post a poll asking whether you think taxpayers should foot the bill for the rescue of that sailing toddler, but this is far more interesting. The U.S. Navy announced today (Apr. 7, 2014) that it plans to install and test a prototype electromagnetic railg...

Re: Today is a good day for PP
I'm quite sure the lowest rates were actually in 2012... but both times, right around 2.5%. Well it was lower than 2.75% because I happened to buy some 30-year treasuries around then... ouch. :P Luckily I was able to tax loss harvest them to offset some fatty gains I made elsewhere. Yep, I see 2.72...

So bad idea #1 is a race to nowhere, like a taxi accelerating to the next red light where he'll have to wait anyway.
I appreciate the elaboration, Rick. Very clear!

Re: Bubble 2.0
For those of you not in NYC, please pardon the coop tangent. It's a strange beast. In some places prices went up four fold from 1998 to 2006. Then when the national housing bubble burst, they didn't come down so much here in New York (I am guessing 10% or so). People would say things like "it'...

Re: A Bond Idea, probably a bad one
Thank you for the replies, guys. I'll do my best to clarify. The first bad idea, selling bonds that have suddenly appreciated for a quick profit, is the main one. It's a little like buying a stock from a newsletter, noticing it has gone up 20% in a week and selling prematurely even if the newsletter...

A Bond Idea, probably a bad one
This might have been brought up before, and perhaps even by me. Can't remember. We all know it's a bad idea to put all your money into any of the four assets without a working crystal ball. This is especially true for bonds, where you can see your purchasing power cut in half and get stuck with a p...

I've never done it but when I do, I plan to use the bank where I keep my checking account. They do everything for me though I have no savings account. Don't you at least have a checking account?
