Re: Bonds and IRAs

If you have room to do Roth at 12% or lower taxes now, I would jump all over that. Odds seem high that tax rates will be headed up at some point. Even if that turns out to be incorrect, you will have lost little or nothing by doing Roth at 12% taxes. The only caveat would be if you are in a high-tax...

Re: Bonds and IRAs

If your marginal tax rate is 10% or 12% in 2018, then a Roth IRA seems very attractive. If your marginal tax rate is 22% or more, then the decision gets harder. You have to forecast what you think your tax rate in retirement might be.

Re: Limiting tax-deferred savings

If iORP isn't showing a change there then doesn't that basically mean that it estimates you will be in the same marginal tax bracket in retirement as you are now? And if that is the case, then truly it doesn't matter which way you go. Unless I'm misunderstanding, which is very possible. I'm no exper...

How about this: However, I wonder if she, as a Muslim woman, has any sense of appreciation for her right to say that without having to worry about having her head chopped off.

This is fun. Let's try re-writing a whole bunch of other posts and see who can do the best job.

Trump, the ultimate grammar Nazi, will have the SS visiting you soon to throw you into a caged death camp, along with all the journalists that are already rotting there.

Re: Limiting tax-deferred savings

Try to estimate what tax bracket you will be in when you get to age 70+ and RMDs kick in, keeping in mind that the Trump tax cuts expire in however many years. Compare that to your current tax bracket. Unless you will clearly be in a higher tax bracket when you get to 70, then I would keep deferring.

KaizenKings, You say that you are new to investing. If you feel comfortable telling us more about yourself (your age, number of years to retirement, annual savings rate compared to annual expenses, employability, access to 401k, etc.), we may be able to give you some better advice. Re: Trump as tragicomedy

Why do we need a minimum wage at all? I thought we had a free-market economy. That's what the media likes to claim when it's convenient. Let market forces decide what each person's labor is worth. I suspect, although maybe it's hard to prove, that on the whole, a minimum wage just ends up taking job...

Re: Trump as tragicomedy

I have no problem considering the mainstream media as the enemy of me any my family. Seems about right at this point. I think they are far more likely to cause me harm than I am to cause them harm with a rope or anything like that.

Re: Trump as tragicomedy

It's okay to call them Fake News but not okay to call them the Enemy of the People. Haha, seems to me just two ways to say the same thing. This is why Trump got elected. People of all political stripes always say they are tired of two-faced politicians. Finally one comes along that just calls things...

Re: Book rec: The Mandibles

Something that really surprised me was that a recent book written by a young white female urbanite could not be full of SJW garbage. Very refreshing. She actually makes it sound like it's okay to be white, to work hard, and to make money, and that even despite all of that "privilege", thin...

I will. And I assume it will dispute a lot of the accounts. The problem is, you can easily imagine that's the state of the White House given how he acts in public and on Twitter. On the way Trump operates -- I have had 13 different jobs in almost 30 years of working. I have worked at companies wher...

But that's not what Harry Browne promised us. He said that every single day that stocks go down, gold will go up twice as much. Right? He did say that, didn't he? I'm pretty sure I heard that somewhere.

However, it can buy books ... which is almost the same thing.

Budd, I don't think you get our point. Even Harry Browne wasn't 4 x 25, and he was the inventor of the PP. He was only 4 x 25 for a certain portion of his portfolio -- the portion that he figured was too important to bet on riskier investments. Each PP investor has to figure out for themselves what ...

Here's an image from Portfolio Visualizer showing the PP performance vs the S&P 500 for 2000 to 2018 (I hope that worked; I don't show images often): https://ibb.co/nmTHqNJ Actually the PP has a higher CAGR and Sharpe ratio and quite a lower maximum drawdown. Of course, that start date is cherry...

Re: Universal Basic Income vs Universal Basic Assets

It's very hard to legislate morality. Big government throws money at problems, but in ways that tend to exacerbate problems rather than helping -- for example, incentivising more births of children into homes without fathers. Hollyweird doesn't help by making morality look passe. Everyone says that ...
