Re: Variable Portfolio?
Not strictly PP, I've got 25% global stocks instead of the recommended 25% national stocks. Also, I've got a small VP with crypto and P2P lending, sized to about 4% of my PP.

Re: Familiar?
I checked what Harry Browne had to say on the subject: Governments invariably call upon their citizens to cooperate in efforts for the "public good." They want you to sacrifice to help solve economic crises, foreign-trade problems, and military conflicts; but these things were caused originally by g...

Re: MCD
Is it just a misconception on my part....or, is the European way sometimes more enlightened than the American way? Well.... it's great that it's sold here, of course. But it doesn't really taste like meat. It's really a patty that's made from some form of mushroom or something. It tastes very neutr...

Salads and Egg McMuffin were mentioned but here in Europe, we have some options:

I'm don't think that's widely available, though.

Re: MCD
I frequently stopped in McDonald's to buy certain non-meat products What I find super-duper great while traveling, is that I can depend on McDonald's for three things: there is a vegetarian option, decent coffee, as well as a playground for my kid. As for the stock, I think it's better to have the ...

Re: What us your current portfolio?
Could you reveal how you invested each of the four segments (i.e., bought long term bonds or bought long-term bond fund, gold fund versus buying actual gold, and so on)? I'm in Europe, where we have to deal with negative interest rates and a rather lackluster economy. So I've got 25% gold ETF, 25% ...

Re: What us your current portfolio?
I've only been using the PP since 2016, and already have had severe doubts about the PP... However I haven't actually changed anything, except maybe added a VP (Variable Portfolio) for about 5% of my total invested capital.

Re: Question about PP vs 100% cash
It seems to me that there's a limit to the "yield", namely it's bounded by what you consume. On the other hand, the PP its yield is limited to what you have in your investment account. So it probably works in the sub-100K dollar/euro range. Then the PP starts to win. Edit: just read the first link y...

Re: Portfolio for European investor
Looks good to me. Do you have a particular reason to go for 30/30/30/10 instead of 25% each?
Personally, I don't stick to 25% each either, I've got a lot more cash but I'm accumulating and am aiming for those percentages.

Is it US-centric, or global in its narrative? Or is it rather about applying principles?
Great topic, by the way. I love me a good book review.

I actually think it's not super bad news. He was caught, and it got on the news instead of being buried somehow. Not a customer at the Perth, but they'd still be on my short list.

Re: my global PP plan, your opinion please
I think it's a pretty good portfolio, I've got something almost similar myself but I haven't gone global on the bonds part yet. Meb Faber has said a few short words about the global permanent portfolio in past episodes, something to the tune of very low volatility, hasn't done better than the US PP,...

Nice work recreating that portfolio!
Schiff has a nice YouTube channel and podcast. He has zero faith in the political and monetary situation of the US, that's why he's called a permabear. One day he'll be right, but then we could all be dead.

what i find funny is when there is a short term market downturn everyone seems to cheer about how the pp did so well by not falling but when the results are weak for 3 years all of a sudden you can't tell much from the short term . Please keep posting. I very much appreciate your critical view.

Re: Forget the numbers: why I know the PP is right for me
Oh yeah, this is a big one for me. I've seen my dad go in and out of stocks, because he started to feel unhappy about his investment. Later he'd say "it was the right time", and he'd buy back into the market without any particular strategy. The buffer of cash makes me feel secure. I know that any lo...
