Re: PP returns USA 2013?
I just reread parts of HB's Failsafe Investing, aka the bible http://www.harrybrowne.org/Archives/Archives.htm How does the Radio Show (dated 2005) compares to the book (dated (2001)? I am listening to the shows now, my assumption is Harry's latest knowledge arisen from the time he published the bo...

Re: Direct Registration (in your name) vs "street name" for top SIPC protection
Then again, I've heard TD has horrible fraud protections, meaning if someone hacks your account, they tell you to f-off, whereas a legit brokerage would assist you in recovering your assets, or make you whole out of their pocket if necessary. That sentence peaked my interest in this resurrected top...

I know. The question is can you do it with ETFs and is it worth it? Compared to Interactive Brokers (for a non US person) for example.smurff wrote: You can also have direct registration if you buy stock via DRIP and DSP (direct stock purchase) plans, usually fee-free or low fee.

Long story short: pros and cons of maintaining my portfolio with a 'street name' brokerage vs. an 'equities in my name' brokerage? And a separate list of both types? I greatly appreciate you.

That is already to complicated to me where he says he is tweaking it here, changing it there I lost the line. What I would be looking for is simply leveraging a solid PP 2:1.
Thanks for sharing, nonetheless.

Also worth taking into consideration if equities are held in your name or the broker's name. In Australia it is called CHESS sponsored, I don't know about the US. Interactive Brokers doesn't have segregated user accounts; equities are held in the name of the broker. See this thread (featuring IB): h...

Re: best BROKER for US and EU
To protect yourself against heavy US estate taxes on foreigners, you buy government debt (50% of PP) directly as it is exempted from estate taxes, and you buy Vanguard or iShares S&P500 on a EU exchange (LSE maybe the best). If you are not buying physical, you can also buy Rowland's PP book-rec...

Re: PP Heresy: Recommendations for a Boglehead 401k
There is no magic formula. But a common Boglehead portfolio would be an S&P 500 index fund or near equivalent ETF and a total bond market index fund with 1% in bonds for every year of your age up to around 70%. Some use static allocations like 60/40 or even 50/50 and just rebalance ever couple...

So now you have learned what is to be learned about CFDs. I am still looking for a good provider, though.
As I said before this is for your variable portfolio, definitely.
Anyone tried this? At least on paper/computer?

Quick question. I did not want to open a new thread. I understand the permanent portfolio is called: the Permanent Portfolio. Simple. But is there a name of a John Bogle Portfolio? Index Funds, etc. But do you have a fancy name for Bogle portfolios like the PP is named? I understand if you adjust th...
