Re: The Left is Eating Itself Pt. II

Is a "wealth tax" inherently socialist? It is a redistribution of wealth and is socialist by definition, yes. I do agree with your third paragraph. As someone who gets by partially on dividends, I think it is insane that they is taxed more favorably than sweat equity. It is simply unfair,...

Re: The Left is Eating Itself Pt. II

I was thinking more like, there are about 86,000 Americans with a net worth over 50 million. That's what the internet told me. I would be surprised if none of them were big political donors, on BOTH sides, and they're not super pumped about their taxes skyrocketing. I can't see people that rich, at...

Re: The Left is Eating Itself Pt. II

Unlikely, I guess? The article mentions Obama-era proposals that didn’t make it, and these go beyond those suggestions. But, anything can happen. And of course, those with $50 million are nothing to cry over. It would set a dangerous precedent, though, and perhaps that would be enough to get some ci...

Re: Trump as tragicomedy

TDS is a terrible scourge. Hopefully science will find a cure someday. I don’t, is there any funding left for science? :-) j/k, I double-checked. Interesting mix of results, though, when you google Trump and science funding Nearly every science agency stands to get more money under a spending bill ...

I remember when you posted about a wealth tax and I thought you were crazy! Now the idea is really being floated by a serious candidate! Crazy!!

So, what country will our wealthy citizens flee to?

Not to criticize your holdings really... Hey, criticize away. We’re all guilty, all of us indexers. I own Diageo. And PM and Altria. I would buy JUUL if it were public, if I were still picking up indie stocks. CVS dumped cigarettes and became CVS Health- but they still have those aisles of candy, a...

Now I'm leaning more towards some sort of base agribusiness direction built more on rice, beans, etc rather than on building it on the "value-add" of junk food producers. Your priorities as an investor are going to have to be different from your priorities as a food consumer. Eat rice and...

Wow, Willie the Groundskeeper has fallen on hard times. (I apologize in advance for this comment.I do think about the homeless. I see them daily as well). Re: Stock scream room

These posts remind me of articles about San Franciscans resenting all the dot comers moving in. They were pleased by the last real bust. Alas, it looks like they’re there to stay. (Except the wise ones moving to Austin and other places).

Whatever you do, don't change course too often, even if you're changing from sensible plan #1 to sensible plan #2. Or Plan #4 to Plan #5. For your vp or LP or whatever, the 3-fund portfolio is boring, and I think it's underrated because it's boring. I am a fan of the 3-fund portfolio. One could say ...

Why not just keep them and enjoy the tax free dividends? It's zero ER, no hidden costs, zero manager risk, guaranteed qualified dividends, and you get more control over capital gains. And, I kind of like the fact that it's stock investing like people used to do it before the advent of mutual funds....

Maybe 40 dividend payers/raisers and a sprinkling of tech plays. The former began as both a gathering of dividends and a desire to mostly avoid the financial sector. (I don’t have a great revelation as to why). It quickly became dominated by consumer stocks, which are also the ones I find the hardes...
