Re: Military and Police joint training

Holy shit... I can't think of a better way to totally freak out the populace than to just spring a training exercise on them!

Cheeeeeese!  Didn't we lock you in a dumpster one time?

Yea... never found cheese a worthwise source of protein.  If meat wasn't subsidized, then maybe, but since it isn't, I don't see any reason to buy cheese outside of ingredients.

I think the Japanese have worked out a fairly standard formula:

1. Look at/think of anything.
2. Make it outrageously, terrifyingly extreme
3. Make porn of it

Re: Boycott the Super Bowl

i suspect there is actually quite a bit of difference between being on a mission that ends up engaged in combat, and being in the front line troops that go out on combat missions, i know it sounds like semantics, but while the actual combat part may be similar or the same, the hardships and conditi...

Rebalancing into bonds when they're down

Can someone explain the benefits more to me if I'm not on track here? Rates today are pretty low from a historical perspective.  Say that they start climbing slowly tomorrow for a few months, and my bond % starts getting lower and lower.  I put money into the lagging asset every month.  But, when I'...

Re: Aspirin

I believe that the sizeable beneficial effects of an aspirin regimen for reducing heart disease, cancer, etc. are indisputable. Are they not? If so, don't they warrant the slight increase in risk for GI bleeding and MCD? I will have to track down the title, but I read a book by a medical profession...

I just came across this commencement speech by David Foster Wallace (23 minutes), and thought it would be appropriate for this thread: https://soundcloud.com/wholesum/this-is-water-by-david-foster Really fantastic and well worth the time to listen to it.  It is so easy to slip into the "defaul...

Re: A new planned community: The Citadel

I have to admit, that sounds really, really cool. I'm very interested to see how it turns out. Quite a marksmanship test they've got going. Hitting a man-sized target at 100 yards with open sights 7 out of 10 times is no mean feat. Stationary targets aren't too tough, but when they're moving it's d...

the plan to kill filibusters could be a big deal (often referred to as the nuclear option) but it can go both ways, whats good for Dems in power now is good for Republicans when they are in power, biggest looser on that one are "the people", especially those that think a healthy dose of g...

Re: The Permanent Hypertrophy Regime

Hmm, some compelling arguments.  It would be nice to use a more mathematically precise system than the bro-adhocism.  Yea, that's really ones of the keys: having an actual PLAN with a progression.  A lot of popular routines do this "spreadsheet planning" like 531, Madcow 5x5, Hypertrophy ...

Nobody gains muscle mass without getting stronger.  Nobody.  This is a fact.  Making getting stronger on the main lifts a priority is the key, especially if you aren't already a barbarian.

Hah, yup!  I've been in the iron game for a long time, so I'm pretty familiar with everything that's out there.  I'm going to see if I have the stick-withitude to stay on the 531 for one year and see how much progress I can make.  I'm in cycle II now.
