Re: Isn't there an Avatar Thread?
I can't believe I hadn't heard of King's Quest. I had to google it unfortunately. It looks like this would have been right up my alley, but maybe just a little before my time?

Re: PP Mistakes
but risk did show up . we have had crashes including losing 24% in one day , wars , the collapse of the savings and loans , the great recession, covid shutting the world down , the collapse of the dot coms , recessions , etc. those returns were with all the risk showing up. if it wasn’t for that fa...

Re: PP Mistakes
If you go back to 1980, a $10k investment in stocks would be worth over $1 million now. PP would be $200k and ST Treasuries $99k. Impressive indeed. For the person who can stomach the stock market's wild multi-year swings without bailing, and also has a crystal ball that assures them no financial o...

Re: I Thought Gold Would Fare Better in 2022-23
I think gold will still have relevance in the decades to come. I don't see Bitcoin being a threat to gold so much as it is a complement. Gold has long stood alongside silver and copper, as an example. I think Bitcoin and maybe a couple other cryptocurrencies have simply enlarged our set of viable o...

Re: Isn't there an Avatar Thread?
I think it was debunked at least 2 years ago but always good for a laugh. :-) My best friend is obsessed with aliens and UAPs (like, Joe Rogan level obsessed) and has been giving me all the updates day by day. He's convinced that the UAPs are legit alien spacecraft piloted by extraterrestrial lifef...

As long as I'm not using that giant 30-pin connector Apple used to ship I'm good lol.

Re: Engineers on the forum: did you like the Lightning connector?
Lightning is going to the landfill and everything is going to be USB-C. At least for the next 7 months. O0 A lot of engineers here probably never used lightning connectors, having stayed with Android devices. If you did, do you know anything good/bad about it? I rather liked it. USB-C is like this ...

Interviews With The Homeless
https://youtu.be/CPoKlwl8_K8 The CBC (our national public broadcaster) did a piece recently where they didn't just write a story about homelessness in my city, they actually did lengthy interviews with those in encampments. Even though I know none of you live in the same city I do, the interviews ar...

Re: ARM (chip designer)
Better to lose early, right? O0 Softbank bought ARM in 2016. Glad it's going public again. I definitely want a little piece. Reading their wiki page, I see ARM acquired Obsidian, the note-taking software. Didn't know that. Definitely better to lose half of your money when all you've got is $6,000 v...

Re: ARM (chip designer)
;D Well, are you going to buy it again? Inquiring minds want to know. And are you sure that wasn’t AMD? A quick stock screener search seems to show the stock was delisted in 2012? And now it's being re-IPO'd via Softbank or something along those lines? I remember after I bought it I kept it for a w...

Re: ARM (chip designer)
Yes, there’s a lot of hype about ARM. MediumTex once quipped that Intel was “printing money” when they printed circuits. And they were. I think ARM has a bright future as they pivot into AI and compete with Nvidia. Of course, even the shoeshine boy knows this. Still, I’m tempted to buy some and hol...

Re: International stocks?
Some ideas I've considered in my PP : internal correlation of the portfolio and stock valuation Being in Canada I feel I can't do domestic stocks as our stock market has so many commodities (oil and gas producers, gold stocks etc) and sentiment about the commodities sector seems to trickle into our...

Re: Physical + Bullionvault + Paxos combo primer
When I backtest I assume a investor would have held T-Bills instead of gold pre 1934, silver between 1934 and 1975, gold since 1976. Prudent. You are way too young plus a non-American to understand what you using that one word made me think of: https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/george-hw-bush...
