Re: Vanguard Treasury Fund

This afternoon spent 41 minutes on the telephone with Vanguard to move to the Treasury Fund all the money to from what had been in the Federal Fund. I have so many retirement accounts with Vanguard it took all that time. I moved even the ones that only had $7.89 and $13.39 in them. Part of my campa...

Thanks for the info on the password managers. I have heard of 1password; definitely on the list to review.

WiseOne -- did you see that Zoom now has a Native M1 version?

Re: New Macs With M1 Chips

OK, I've had my new M1 Macbook Pro for about a week.... I got the memory & processor upgrades, but decided to stick with a 500 Gb drive. I can always upgrade it, but meantime I'm happy to rely on cloud storage with smart sync. The files I work with regularly fit easily into this drive. <snip> T...

Re: New Macs With M1 Chips

Any news on delivery dates? So far, it doesn't seem that I can pick one up at an Apple store and delivery dates are far enough in the future that I can't predict where I will be. I think it depends on what you get. Base Air is 8-15 days from Apple (free shipping); Best Buy claims they have some col...

Re: New Macs With M1 Chips

Any more updates / experiences with the new M1 MacBooks / MacBook Airs? I need to get one soon. The low end Air probably meets my basic needs, but thinking about future proofing a bit by get 16GB RAM / 512GB HD / 8 Core GPU. [Edit: Hmm; can get the Air with 512GB HD and 8-core graphics for $50 less ...

Re: New Macs With M1 Chips

Definitely has me thinking about getting a laptop. Currently just have an old 2012 Mac Mini that is fine for most things, but shared with others and likely to be off helping my dad more. 10 days till the expected Apple sale to figure out if I go iPad or MacBook, Air or Pro. I foresee spending way to...

Re: New Macs With M1 Chips

Thanks for the assessment Smith! I'd heard about this, but now I'm really excited to try this out. I had delayed replacing my laptop, but it's now really starting to show its age (it's a 2013). Gaming isn't my issue but I do need to run some intense mathematical software on large datasets. My curre...

Re: Biden plan to limit 401K deductions

I have thought it reasonable to have a single max total amount tax deferrable for retirement.

Remove the penalties for those without access to employer provided plans.

$20k/filer via any vehicle (or something like that).

Re: Biden plan to limit 401K deductions

Playing devil's advocate, Why do only democrats have to pay for things?

Last few President's, growth of the deficit goes up under Republicans, down under Democrats.

Gone up bigly under current administration.

Re: Car ownership vs. Rideshare

I wonder how long until the costs go up. I believe not profitable. And potential for costs to go up as there are changes to how driver's are treated (independent contractor vs employee). Note: not wanting to turn this into a political discussion, but that IMO is something to consider longer term fro...

I've long thought 25 as voting age. Most should have some experience living on their own to some extent by then. How does that fit that when they are 18 they are old enough to be killed for their country? Can't that be analogized to "taxation without representation"? Vinny Different trait...

Re: Smith1776 ALERT!!! Next book for Smith1776??!!

P.S. The irony of a book on value investing selling at such an inflated price should not be lost on anyone. Perhaps that's the real world lesson of the book??? Inside it probably just says "You've just learned the most important lesson of what NOT to do in value investing." O0 That would ...

Or a cost effective way to mine the asteroid belt.

Then depends on the demand.

And probably would behave differently.

She ain't running.

Trump is.

Trump is saying things like:

"The only way they can take this election away from us is if this is a rigged election," he said. "We're going to win."

If you're going to work in the financial sector which the vast majority of programmers do, it's all about simple number crunching and it's true that you don't need anything but basic math plus boolean algebra to be successful. I'm a good example of that myself. If you're going to apply to NASA, Roc...
