We used to love to go to Washington but actually I'd rather meet in Vancouver.

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

Are you in Vancouver proper or somewhere else in the Lower Mainland? I used to work out that way a lot. And no home workouts now that the gym is closed? I'm about a 30 minute drive outside of Vancouver in the Fraser Valley area! Are you in the area too? And yeah, I've put together a home workout pl...

Interesting.
Someone on Bogleheads actually posted it after a few posters were bashing gold. Nobody argued with him.
I love it. ;D

Re: Portfolio safety in extreme cases

For the old-timers, isn't that the opposite of what Clive predicted on the old forum? He deleted all his posts and left before I joined here, but IIRC he said that gold was going to become devalued, and everyone was going to sell their productive assets to buy gold. I've said this before, but I'm a...

Btw, Smith, it looks like I never answered your q above about Iliza. It wasn't War Paint. Can't remember the title.
Her last one was just okay... I was honestly a little disappointed. Still good, just not great.

Re: Know one another?

I think after this is all over, as many of us as possible should get together in person. I will be there. Being in university and only working part time, I probably have the lowest net worth of any regular poster here. So hopefully we can make it close-ish to Vancouver. Maybe something like Washing...

Re: Portfolio safety in extreme cases

I think the PP has decent protection overall in a hyper-inflation scenario. Not really. As Libertarian666 pointed out, if you keep rebalancing the PP as prescribed during a hyperinflation (which can last several years, like Weimar Germany's did), you can lose most of your money. Right, if you follo...

Re: A CombiBar Thread

I am no expert but have a modicum of knowledge. 1) Weigh the piece of gold. 2) There are some chemicals you can apply to the surface of the gold and silver. You can confirm the presence of precious metals based on the reaction. 3) I've seen machines where people put the gold/silver in a vessel of wa...

Re: Portfolio safety in extreme cases

My impression from Harry Browne's books and radio shows was that the PP was designed to handle inflation, but not hyperinflation. In a hyperinflation, the entire notion of an "investment portfolio" kind of goes out the window, and people are just trying to survive. In which case, you use your physi...

Re: Portfolio safety in extreme cases

I'm going to recommend a modification to the PP that I'm not sure anyone has suggested. The rule I'm suggesting is: "Never rebalance out of gold twice in a row." This is intended to keep you from throwing good money after bad in a hyperinflationary collapse where the other assets keep going down. C...

Re: Are you "staying the course"?

I've got more confidence in the PP than ever before.

I remember Craig once said that the PP's assets responding to a crisis was like a rudder on a ship. It's not instantaneous, but the ship turns after a moment or two.

The flip side to us knowing each other's identities would be that we could band together and help each other in a true apocalypse. Hell, it may come to that if this whole virus thing gets much worse.

Has anyone ever invited someone to join here who actually did join and participate at some point? And, if so, did you reveal to one another who you really were, i.e., your true name attached to the name you use here. How about for the people who have actually met in person. Did you always then get ...

@smithers: ok, but how much gym time are you going to miss if you’re horizontal with a temperature and the shivers or, God forbid, in a coma. 🤷‍♂️ Looks like my internal debate is over.
