Replacing Cash with VWINX, the results look juicy

Hi all, I made a modification to my PP and I’d like your feedback.  I've replaced the cash portion with VWINX. I know, more risk, go easy on me.  I know its PP heresy, but I can't help it, the back tested results look too juicy. I don't feel I need the cash portion, its dragging the whole PP down.  ...

Re: friction

That's great advice PointedStick.  It sounds a lot like Harry Browne's "How I Found Freedom in an Unfree World". This summer I plan on moving from Chicago to Tampa Bay Florida.  I’ve been dreaming about this my whole life and its finally all coming together now.  Sometimes you just got to ...

Re: Nicolas Darvas: Best trading book you'll ever read (most entertaining, too)

This is a great book, I read it years ago.  Keep in mind Darvas was stock picking during a long-term stock market boom, so just about any system works well in that environment.

Re: Silver & Gold - Hidden Secrets Of Money - new Mike Maloney youtube video

Sorry, what I meant was my 25% gold portion is broken down to majority physical, with some IAU.  I also have 25% in each of these: TLT/SHY/(VTI&VEU).

Re: Silver & Gold - Hidden Secrets Of Money - new Mike Maloney youtube video

If physical gold is not feasible for you, then paper gold is a reasonable alternative until your situation changes.

I own some IAU for easy rebalancing.  My PP consists of about 25% paper gold, and 75% physical gold, and I’m not losing any sleep over it.

Re: VP trading diary

Before anyone embarks on speculative trading they should read Harry Browne’s book "Why the Best-laid Investment Plans Usually Go Wrong".  It will sober you up. Browne said on one of his radio shows that it was his worst selling book, yet the one he enjoyed writing the most.  I love the boo...

Re: 2 months old PP, down -3%.

Well said JMoyle. I too am buying physical gold as my gold portion is getting close to 15%. I just ordered a couple 1oz buffalo coin today. I have no fear at all.  I've done extensive research and I believe the PP is the safest, simplest, neutral, non-speculative portfolio available.  I’m down about...

Re: Seeking Book Recommendations for Young People

Book title: "Whatever Happened to Penny Candy?" by Richard Maybury.

Richard Maybury was a guest on Harry Browne's radio show, which is how I first heard of him. He wrote a series of "Uncle Eric" books designed for children/young adults.

Re: "...for the money you cannot afford to lose."

I second Dozha's comment.  I don't want to lose sleep worrying about a Variable Portfolio so I don’t have one.

I have two Permanent Portfolios: a RothIRA and Brokerage account.  My 401k is a 50/50 stock/bond.  It works for me.

Bro, your [edited out inappropriate comment. CraigR] are part of a Variable portfolio, not a Permanent portfolio.  They are a pure speculation, and that’s what the Variable portfolio is for.
