Re: The GOLD scream room
Did anyone else grab any gold today? Seemed like a good day so I pulled the trigger on some coins. Hopefully they get here instead of being lost/stolen like all of my other coins that I don't have.

Re: Transcendental Meditation
I'm not sure. I've seen in a few places that Thomas Edison was a practitioner, but I don't know about the veracity of that claim. It might have been in Timothy Ferriss's book, or googling "powerman sleep" or something.

Re: Transcendental Meditation
I knew a woman when I was at Berkeley (she worked at the student Union and was probably in her mid-40's... 25 years ago) who had lived an interesting life: Partied with Willie Nelson, and studied TM with one of the Mahareeshis. Or somebody like that. It might have been Elvis, for all I can remembe...

Re: Beard
Clean shaven for 8 years, due to military requirements. For about half a year after I got out, I tried growing a beard, but kept shaving it off due to the uncomfortableness. I did let me hair grow out though. I bought myself clippers for Christmas, and this entire year I've kept a stubble beard. It ...

I have nothing constructive to add, since I am merely an egg, but this is a great thread. Thanks all.

They're like more beautiful versions of what I've seen of Detroit. (of course, Detroit still has millions of people living there)
Except for the earthquake/memorial city. That's weird.

Hedge funds just started buying up tons of real estate in the recent past. I don't know if that's "where the money was going" or if it was just a small amount.

LOL.... that was awesome
Best bike lanes ever.... Germany. In most places, there is a curb separating them from the street, and a little mini curb separating them from the sidewalk.

What do you want to calculate? If you google FIREcalc it gives you the Trinity calculation, to see what your chances are to run out of money.

OH, but what I wanted to say was, PS, that I'm thinking about doing the same thing: quitting my high paying job and doing entrepreneurial stuff. Not really, I just want to get into real estate, along the lines of what Mike did, from Lacking Ambition. Fill me in: What's Mike at Lacking Ambition doin...

Re: A more volatile PP, part two
Ad's point is one I've made for years as well. If someone wants to take on more chance of growth, then just hold a smaller "core" for the Permanent Portfolio and add in more stocks. And by stocks I think a broadly based stock fund works pretty well. You could just buy Vanguard Total All World Index...

The implications of saving 60%, in California, with a family are astounding . I save about 75%, and I live in one of the cheapest areas of the country, with NO state income tax, and I hardly spend any money at all. Maybe we're using different base figures, or your salary is just incredibly high. I t...

Here is a "Barney" style video intro to MMT — which is not Monetary Realism, but it's relatively close. http://youtu.be/Ei_B5MTJofI If you ignore the liberal prescriptions on employment and just ponder the underlying mechanics, you'll get a brief understanding of MR: Thanks for the helpful video. ...

A few of us were just talking on another forum about the Detroit situation, and how they need to be careful or their cops are going to start doing illegal stuff. Thanks for the heads up.

I think it's funny that, after public knowledge of black torture facilities in other countries, he added "... in the United States." to his statement. It's almost like there was a silent chuckle at the end.
