Re: Sprott Intends to Make Exchange Offers for Central GoldTrust and Silver Bullion

Here's an interesting detail from the latest salvo from the GTU trustees in this battle, from http://archive.fast-edgar.com//20150616/A7AZP22C8Z2269ZK229E2ZZZG3EJZ2W2ZB72/: "Sprott has required that any GoldTrust Unitholder that wishes to tender to the Sprott Offer on a tax-deferred basis must...

Re: Sprott Intends to Make Exchange Offers for Central GoldTrust and Silver Bullion

I am in full agreement with the trustees of Central Gold Trust, even before they came out and gave the opinion not to tender, I had the same opinion, I'm in this for the long run. The only reason there is a discount to nav is because people who should not have bought it or bought for the wrong reaso...

Re: Sprott Intends to Make Exchange Offers for Central GoldTrust and Silver Bullion

The Board of directors at GTU recommends that unit holders do nothing until they properly evaluate the offer. Which they will, after that, act in what you think is in your best interest.  For me personally I see no long term advantage to Sprott only disadvantages.

Re: Sprott Intends to Make Exchange Offers for Central GoldTrust and Silver Bullion

I spoke with a Sprott representative earlier today and he could not give me one concrete reason that a take over would benefit me in the long run. We had a lengthily conversation as he wanted to know all my objections. I explained how I liked the lower expense, the fact that it trades at a big disco...

Re: Shareholder activists are trying to unlock the NAV discount on GTU

I follow this blog linked below and there was a great write up of the events taking place, even though his view's differ from a lot of us here, but his views seem to be actually facts. A lot us think that we don't want the "takeover" since it can increase taxes and only benefits Polar.   ...

Re: Shareholder activists are trying to unlock the NAV discount on GTU

I've voted against Polar too. Their case sounds reasonable the way they state it, but I have difficulty trusting an entity that swoops in, buys a huge chunk of units, then stages a hostile takeover in an attempt to change the fundamental nature of the fund to their advantage. If their resolution pa...

These are all good reasons to own and control your own bullion, I like GTU the way it is and hope for no change, I liked it for a portion of gold holding because of convenience, the tax advantages and the way it always worked great for the PP.

Re: Shareholder activists are trying to unlock the NAV discount on GTU

PHYS is a closed-end fund like GTU.  Why does PHYS allow physical redemption and GTU doesn't? Each fund has a different structure  and objective to accommodate  different types of investors. Central Gold Trust (GTU) has objectives that work perfect for PP strategy     At current gold prices, G...

Re: Shareholder activists are trying to unlock the NAV discount on GTU

As a GTU unit holder for a long time. I am 100% against polar.  My opinion is that will ruin all that is good about central gold trust.  Without going into a lot of detail premiums and discounts are controlled by the unit holders, no one is forced to sell at a discount. If you adhere to the PP philo...

vglt/edv even split is about the same as tlt, Back a few years ago I took tax loss harvest on tlt and bought vglt/edv , I never got the chance to re buy tlt as long term bond just went up from the point I sold tlt. First off let me make it clear that I am not a tax professional. I think what would I do if I were you. I do not think you have to file anything if you sell everything at a loss, however it only take a minute to fill out and file form 8621 so that is not a big deal either way. Now what I would be ex...

Besides holding Physical gold in your own possession, I see GTU as a great way to invest in gold. I never did revisit this thread in 2013 but I should have. My accountant said that I have to make an election stating that I am going to sell in the following year (when I finally decide to sell. Not anytime soon). And that is a hassle. I wish he had just listened to me quoting Steve. Instead he to...

The beauty of the Perm Portfolio is you do not have to market time, you just buy when a re balance band is hit.  I am not going to make any predictions but a while back when everyone was talking about interest rates rising and long bonds should be sold, anyone who sold regretted it. There was a radi...

GTU has been selling at a discount ever since the big gold drop in April.  The discount doesn't seem to be getting any less even with the price increase over the last two months. Re: Rebalanced into gold

I'm questioning this statement  because: (1) GLD is treated as a collectable by the IRS and (2) its the first I've heard of this "consensus" I haven't seen this consensus either, but I guess you could argue that with premium swings around +/- 10% to gld, the investing public certainly doe...
