Re: The Afghan Papers

All of the dumbasses who think the mighty American military can win wars have not been paying attention. They can win wars if the battles are set up like WW2 battlegrounds. Which will never happen again. The last of the WW2 style battles happened in WW2. Personally I think the next war will be a cy...

Re: The Afghan Papers

I haven't even read the story, because I feel I don't need to. It's been so obvious that it was Viet Nam all over again.

Re: Electric Vehicles

I'm not anti EV. But, sit and watch how many vehicles get petro fuel in an hour at a busy interstate highway gas station. The typical car fill up takes less than 3 minutes. Now if they were EVs instead, tell me how they do it and how much real estate and grid capacity it takes.

Re: Falling yields

Man, I don't know. I keep running into business people and businesses that are desperate for workers. And big wage increases. I'll spare you the anecdotes, but they are everywhere. My prediction, inflation soon and bigger than you expect. So will that be stagflation? Seems like a plausible scenario....

Re: ESG

Has anyone looked into the implications of ESG for gold? If investment institutions bar themselves from owning gold, I say no big deal. I never have liked the idea of gold as a plaything for hot money. Now, if governments divest gold because of ESG, that could be very interesting, and probably not ...

I’m generally aware that there is an anti statins movement. Can anyone sum up their objections to statins?

Re: Want to lose weight & treatment for diabetes

I’m pretty sure that in Illinois you can purchase lab tests on your own. I think it would be worthwhile.

Get your PSA tested. I don’t like the annual prostate exam but the cancer is in my family so I see a urologist each year.

Re: I think it’s time to move into crypto

A couple of newbie crypto people in my life tell me that in the US, everything is being reported. They mean by the exchanges and brokers and businesses. I tried the what about? questions but their reply was that if you want to do anything useful with it, it is reported. My specific question to the ...

Re: I think it’s time to move into crypto

Part of the bull case for crypto is that it is being regulated and the future of crypto will include things like digital identities and therefore make it easier for users, investors and businesses alike, to be regulatory compliant. There is already paper cash for those looking to use without report...

I really need to start a website like the nuclear war doomsday clock, for the breakup of the US. I’ll start by saying we are closer to midnight than we’ve been since the 1800s.

Re: Alternatives to Modern Medicine

I have had very good results from acupuncture. So has my wife. I tried it for headaches after not one but two neurologists suggested it. I made it a point to NOT research it, so that I didn’t get turned off by the implausible sounding theories. It helps me with headaches and some muscles and joints...

Re: International stocks?

I’ve had half of our stock money in Ftse xUS for 12 years. Most of the 12 the SP500 has outperformed. My day is coming! ;) FWIW most of my international exposure is actually in actively managed funds. I know active funds aren't theoretically supposed to outperform (but see Note 1 below) index funds...

Chief, if it was easy, everyone would do it. That old line packs a lot of wisdom inside a few words.

As to HB, who knows. He made big money as a speculator, speaker, and newsletter publisher.

Re: Need a realtor to sell a home in this market?

I know quite a few people who have made themselves nicely comfortable by buying and renting houses and small plexes. It’s as old as dirt. The tax code is very favorable if you actively manage. You get business deductions. Including health care. You can start this business without a lot of capital. I...
