Re: PP humming along again
Isn August decided that I was going to put 100% of my money in the PP over the next year, so I split it into 4 purchases. Bought in mid august and again in January. I still have two more purchases to go. In hindsight I'd had been better buying all at once as is suggested by HB. But I'm very happy! 6...

Solo 401(k)
I own an LLC filing as an S Corp. can anyone give insight to how the solo 401 can work and if it's possible to do a back door Roth with one. I understand that Vanguard has a Roth option for a portion of the account. Thanks for any help. My CPA has been useless with this.

Oh and regarding tax efficiency because you mentioned split between taxable/tax advantaged... Try to view your entire pool of assets as one portfolio but understand that some accounts are more suited to specific assets. Roth: Stocks 401k: Bond funds Traditional IRA: CDs (because 401ks don't offer t...

I purchased 100K of treasury notes CUSIP 912828D64. It says I'm down $254. I know it has something to do with the coupon, but I don't understand how to account for that. .5% coupon in Aug and Feb.

I echo what everyone else just said.
I once had 100k extra dollars that would say "don't speculate in gold miners if you want to keep me"

I am glad that I chose to dollar cost average into the PP to smooth out any short term gyrations. I think Mediumtex is right in saying that it helps ease you into it mentally. I'm doing 4 buys over the next year, to smooth out any events like this.

all that money from stock sells has to go somewhere eventually. Give it a little while, like 2008.

I think it's also worth mentioning the effect that rebalancing has on generating more gains. Stableinvesting.com had a nice explanation of this sophisticated feature. It's almost like The PP is a product from Apple, simple and elegant on the surface but complex and brilliantly designed under the hood.

Thanks guys. I don't plan on checking daily or anything, but since I just made my first purchase for the PP it's cool to watch the non-correlation at play.

Price updates when owning bonds directly
Silly question : I bought my bonds through the bond desk at fidelity. Am I seeing an up to date price for the bonds when I look at my portfolio through fidelity or is delayed a day?

Today I implement the PP for the first time. I used my Fidelity account to by LTT and STT (1 year, no ladder) directly. For some reason I was really nervous that I did it wrong so I'd love for someone to just tell me I bought the right thing. LTT says : Buy 912810RK6 UNITED STATES TREAS BDS 2.50000%...

Sounds like speculation to me. Do this in the VP. When your 20% stop hits, short the index as a full or partial hedge inside the VP and cover when your ready.

I don't care about nominal returns. I only care about real returns. nominal returns are important too. think of your pay check. you can't control everything about your expenses in life but what what at least helps you plan is a consist pay check that is usually enough to exceed inflation . by havin...

Now you are shifting the goalposts. You didn't say, "The duration should be 18 years based on average maturity but is 17 because of securities lending." Your exact quote: "the average maturity is 27 years but duration is only 17 years... the fund acts as if it is a much shorter ty...

Re: Talk me into selling my gold miners.
Welp, after the past two huge down days I had 85k in losses. I realized about 70k of them and them today. I kept just enough as a VP so if miners rebound I won't feel completely stupid. Putting some stop losses in them though. On the plus side I paid off my mortgage today. So now to implement the P...

The day I plan to liquidate my mining stocks this happens. I'm not sure if Ill look back in 5 years and say it was the dumbest thing to sell here or the best thing ever. There goes a years salary because I wanted to outsmart the markets.

Thanks Cortopassi. What really erks me is GTU and CEF. I was buying those at a premium and they've tanked worse than the metals themselves, now trading at a negative NAV. Even gold stocks that only own good don't behave like gold if they are a closed end fund! I liquidated my Europac account last we...

I would keep it. Just about the time you feel like puking, average into some more shares. Eventually miners will come back. I own none myself so it's easy for me to give advice with someone else's money, but I'm strongly considering averaging into some GDX leaps Iv felt like puking for about a mont...

I'm having a real mental problem realizing my 70k loss in gold miners to raise funds for the PP. I can't friggin believe it.
