Re: Bill Bernstein on the Long view podcast

I'm a big fan of Bill Bernstein. He's not dogmatic, but rather very practical. He's also the researcher that originated a rigorous and systematic idea of having an explicit allocation to gold mining stocks in a portfolio.

It'll have that distinct Smith style of discourse: sophomoric with a hint of mania. ::)

Thanks for this post, Vinny. Noting the date. It's amazing how much changes in a year. The sentiment in this passage you posted is such that people were wanting to de-risk just as risk premiums in both stocks and bonds skyrocketed. That Brian Smallsaver fellow said he was "scared to death of st...

Though I watch a wide range of violent video I tend to shun the supernatural or horror or zombie type video. Anything, though, with Marvel characters in it are fine. Re: Signatures

What is it about the human psyche that likes zombie apocalypses so much? I think part of it is that it provides an enemy you’re allowed to hate, and in large quantities. Yeah I think there's truth to that. I think another element is that people also like to assume they'd be one of the heroic surviv...

Also, for those wondering what the difference is between that long/flat commodity ETF versus a typical long-only commodity fund, here's a performance comparison. The blue line is what CCOM.TO would have delivered, and the red and gold lines are DBC and GSG, which are the two most popular US-listed c...

How far back do you need to go? The index provider (the one that runs the long/flat commodity ETF) itself has simulated monthly data back to 2000. Beyond that, you would have to simulate it yourself for each of the eleven or twelve futures they use (I'm assuming you have access to their methodology...

A little bit more about the book project. I've been mentally refining the book this week on my daily walks. 1) I have decided to keep the book short and succinct. Tell us about the gaming PC. What’s under the hood?

I was thinking of a Shiba Inu in the mountains as the background image to get across the “all-terrain” aspect.
