Re: Why isn't cash held in savings accounts?

The only reason I keep some cash in the bank is for a free safety deposit box -- never had one before I had a pp --  and for bill pay.

Then you'd have to spray it occasionally for silverfish.

Re: Anti-U.S. Protests in the Muslim World

They are trapped in a backward way of thinking. As was said on the radio this morning, "Egypt used to be ahead of China. Now (China is so far ahead that) Egypt cannot even see China." Well there are large factions of that region that think we are trapped in backwards thinking. So maybe th...

Re: Anti-U.S. Protests in the Muslim World

Craig, Tenn, Tex, I agree that it's not our business to step in and bring peace to the Middle East, at least not forcefully. Bringing peace via force is ironic, isn't it? Although I could counter your bar fight analogy, Craig, by saying that if we want innocent bystanders to enjoy the bar, there is ...

Re: Anti-U.S. Protests in the Muslim World

How about the obvious: They're pissed off because we've occupied their countries, in the process killed 100-300 of theirs for every one of ours who dies, kill indisciminately, and with drones, and are trying to export our culture into theirs. ... That's all true and relevant, but it certainly doesn...

Re: When Will Iran Be Attacked?

I also hope Iran will not be attacked, and I don't think they will be. The Sunnis may be suicidal, but Shia Iran is actually far more rational than most of us think. Unfortunately, they just have very different interests than we do. If someone does take out Iran's nuclear capability, it's just a mat...

Re: Anti-U.S. Protests in the Muslim World

Well, I watched the 13 minute trailer for the film that was supposedly the catalyst for the protests, and I am more confused than ever. The production quality and content is on par with a bad SNL skit. It's really dumb. http://youtu.be/mjoa3QazVy8 Like I said, the protestors haven't seen it. Just w...

As for all the Obama posts in this thread I will concede that he was too optimistic, to make an understatement.
But, has any president fixed the Middle East? No.
I really don't know how I'm going to vote, come November.
I'm just glad I own a pp.

Re: Anti-U.S. Protests in the Muslim World

Not cry straw man here, but has anyone actually blamed the film/filmmaker/US for the attacks?  Seems to me that most people believe the movie to be only loosely related to the attacks Well, the attackers have. It was good to see the following: Saudi grand mufti: Attacks on embassies un-Islamic High...

LOL
I used to watch that show with the whole family back when TVs still had a bit of wood on the top (and were manufactured in the U.S.)
It was great to see Vicky Lawrence's 'Mama' scowl again after all these years, but of course Tim Conway is the star.

Re: Nootropics - The Facts About Smart Drugs

Interesting material.  Since getting into lucid dreaming I'd run across many mentions of choline supplementation for making vivid dreams more likely. I used to take B vitamins for health, but I quickly learned that taking them just before bed led to dreams that were way too vibrant. (I don't take a...

Filmmaker is a Coptic Christian? I couldn't resist peeking in a white supremacist forum to see what those knuckleheads had to say about it (it's a strange occasional vice of mine, akin to pulling on a sore tooth). Unsurprisingly, they are not fooled by the Coptic Christian news. Oh no. They know wh...

Re: Anti-U.S. Protests in the Muslim World

+1, MT. I saw in the news that the White House has contacted Google more than once to request that they stop hosting the offensive movie on their servers. Google refused. That's a good thing; if they had complied, it would have been a form of censorship and a step backwards for freedom. As of an ho...

Re: The true nature of matter

I've read Quantum Reality by Nick Herbert, although I'm sure there are tons of more recent books on the subject. If you want something even more dated (and flawed), the Dancing Wu-li Masters is fun. If I were to read a new book on the subject, I might go with author Brian Cox. Oh, I've also read the...

Re: Anti-U.S. Protests in the Muslim World

These people have not even seen the film. I have no doubt that more Westerners have reviewed it, noticed how ridiculous and obnoxious it is, and moved on. However, it was translated into Arabic, and copied to enough places where the right people would see it and promptly stir things up with the angr...

I did it too. So we'll all float or sink together... The PP is a strange beast. I awoke to find my EDV position down 4% and I was overjoyed. What the heck is wrong with me?? I, for one, was not too amused by the drop in LTT's today. Am I missing something? Are we predicting lower yields given the a...

Update: yup, it's true.
I bought some 3-YR's recently, and there was no 10K minimum.
I think most of you just buy on the secondary market, but if there are any other auction participants out there, there we are.

Re: PRPFX Has Been on a Nice Run

I haven't watched the clip yet, but I figure having fewer long-term treasury bonds in the mix than HBPP has something to do with my current (and fleeting) envy. It seems like my HBPP and PRPFX keep passing each other when LTT move up or down significantly.

@Pointed

I think tasers are illegal here but I'll check up on basic stun guns. The missus refuses to carry pepper spray, but I escort her to and from work and I carry the spray. A friend of ours is a firearms instructor so we're working on the rest but, sadly she's not that interested.
