Traditional 60/40 and PRPFX

Current AA is 60/40 distributed across 401K and IRA accounts. PRPFX comprises 15% of this mix and is the only non FI investment maintained in a taxable account. The amount is too large in comparison to the balance of the portfolio to exclude from AA calculations. 75% of the fixed income holdings are...

Re: PRPFX Performance and Profit Taking

I've got some of my savings in the PRPFX.  But I wouldn't touch that - at least not until well into retirement when it might make sense. I would (and did) cash out everything in my 401k back in the run up to 2009.  As my company changed on me, I closed out the 401k and moved it into an IRA where I ...

PRPFX Performance and Profit Taking

PRPFX YTD returns exceeded 13% today and I decided to sell a portion of the fund (10%) and book the profits. In conjuction with this transaction, I also decided to shave a little off of my VGPMX holdings (20%) as this fund had reached 20% over cost basis. I am now evaluating whether it made sense to...

Gold Bullion, Gold Coins and PRPFX Closing Price

What is the relationship between the spot price of Gold and the PRPFX closing price (or any mutual fund that holds bullion/coins for that matter)? Gold rallied late in the trading day yesterday, but was not reflected in the closing price of PRPFX. Today, the spot price of gold during COMEX trading h...

Re: EDV or Short S&P

What are the recommended rebalancing bands when adopting a 90% PRPFX 10% EDV portfolio? Both components are held in taxable accounts. Also, with respect to LTT, what is the rationale behind holding EDV over TLT? I prefer EDV for simplicity (portfolio is at VG) as well as the benefits of free transac...

EDV or Short S&P

Adding EDV to PRPFX compensates for the lack of long-term treasuries in the PP fund. How do proponents of this recommendation feel about shorting the S&P (Proshares SH as a proxy) in lieu of adding the additional treasury exposure? One reason that would preclude me from using this strategy, is the p...

Re: PRPFX May Suffer

I agree that PRPFX is more volatile than the 4x25 PP and will provide less downside protection in a falling equity market. My hope is that the opposite will be true as well, and in a rising market, the fund will outperform the traditional 4x25 PP. I would prefer to hold each of the 4 PP components i...
