Re: New Gold ETF - GLDW

I'd guess it's for people who thing global demand for gold will go up, but don't want additional currency exposure?

Re: PP Performance for 2016

So if I've stuck with the PP through it's dog years, I'll probably also stick through a 100% equities portfolio through it's inevitable dog years?

If you bemoan the poor state of political discourse nowadays but can't resist making bitter, snarky comments about your political opponents and their follies, foibles, and failures, understand that you are part of the problem . Be the change you want to see in the world. Are you talking to me? Beca...

I did rebalance into gold/TLT but so far it's overall negative. Nice to beat the S&P over a 2 month period, but that can happen with almost any holding

Re: Renewable electricity sources are now a no-brainer

I sense that we are about to have a climate change thread. :) Improved air quality and a layer of protection from widespread grid outages are reasons enough to pursue local wind and solar installations. Extra benefit if costs are lower. Uh, air quality and grid outages are just an invention of the ...

Who's fighting solar? I'm not a fan of rooftop solar (so ugly) but I'd love for my utility to build plenty of solar and give me a fat discount. If they need funding, they can offer a deal where I pay for the panels and they give me the output.

I think the comment is forgivable if not intended to be be offensive, but the correct response is to apologize not rage quit and imply that the offended party is wrong.

I say this because it didn't initially strike me as offensive either, but dualstow made it extremely clear with his analogy.

Re: Google Sheets pulling wrong price for TLT

Google is missing TLT data in general for the last few days. I like Google's portfolio viewer the best for interface and features, but their historical data is kinda crap. If anyone has another suggestion for a site where I can enter my purchases/sales and it shows me the portfolio over time (not ju...

Re: PP Performance for 2016

I mostly use a PP (last year included some 2xPP), but this is IRR of my entire net worth and savings, so it includes some other returns over my entire assets (real estate, cash on hand, etc.). 1 YR - 9.3% 3 YR - 4.8% 5 YR - 5.6% "lifetime" 4.6% (CAGR) - it was up to something like 8% lifet...

All you had to do was buy in CA a couple decades ago. Taxes generally limited to 1% of assessed value, and assessment increases capped at 2% per year. Part of why our income taxes are high, but it's a good deal once you retire

Impact fees - These can work if the fees are large enough to support a SWR equal to the revenue needed to pay for services, right?

Re: 20% annual returns over 40 years...interested?

dragoncar, I am curious, so the 3x SPY about doubled in the timeframe, how did the 3x gold and bond ETFs do? These numbers will be a bit off since I already rebalanced, but: SPXL +39.07% TMF -10.52% UGLD -12% All acquired 03/01/2016 (so the above would make SPXL 33.4% exposure, but as I said it was...

Pulled the trigger on a rebalance. My 3xSPY was bouncing around 34-35% of exposure for a while. I was way up for a while, but now back to square one (very modest gain).

There has to be a way around a preemptive pardon, if the corruption is worthy of prosecution in the first place, like many believe. You can only pardon for past acts. So Congress can order her to testify and she will either be made to tell all the gory details (likely further hurting the Democrat p...

Re: 20% annual returns over 40 years...interested?

It will be fine...my initial foray was a year long drawdown from pretty much day 1 with well over 50% losses in UGLD. You have a big wad of cash and as I've mentioned several times, it is a near certainty that you will experience one asset going to zero over the course of a year. This is an aggress...

MG, 1. Forget why it was implemented this way. The result of getting rid of it will be to give huge population centers e.g. California, new York, etc etc more influence and other states less. Is that what you want or think is appropriate? Not more influence per capita. It's ridiculous the mind hoop...

Re: Tallying of early votes

Any chance of getting caught happens well after the fact, but the penalties might be considerable (misrepresentation on a government form). It's sort of like cheating on your taxes. Lots of people do it, but more avoid it because even though the probability of getting caught is small, the penalties...
