Re: Netflix junkie
Watched the whole season of "Diagnosis" last night. Had to get past the fact that it was produced by the New York Times but I thought it was about as good as "reality TV" gets. It's basically a non-fiction version of "House" and the female doctor who wrote for the Times was actually a consultant on ...

Re: Books?
According to library records the last book I checked out was "The Mandibles". I think it might have been recommended by somebody on this forum. I don't remember reading more than a few pages, however, and I can say the same of the prior three that I checked out. I just keep them on the lampstand in ...

Re: Will Trump be Re-elected?
He had a fine life before he ran for President. Now he is attacked 24/7 by the vast majority of the media as well as the other Democrats. Yet he is continuing to try to fulfill the promises he made to his supporters, when he could much more easily give up and go back to his previous life. Sounds li...

Re: Will Trump be Re-elected?
I think he will probably be re-elected if he can keep his head when all those around him are losing theirs and blaming it on him (re: Kipling). Not necessarily connected to Trump's re-election but I thought this was an excellent article about the juvenile state of partisan politics..... https://www....

I initially went all in with the PP in 2008 but transitioned to the GB about 3 years ago. The reason I did that was precisely for the reason people often warn about with the standard 4x4 - that it will be hard to stick with in times of prosperity when stocks are outperforming (hello Bud and Mathjak)...

Ah, you’re just starting Breaking Bad. I’m jealous. O0 You’re in for a treat. Watched El Camino last night and thought it was pretty good. Obviously wait until after BB before watching if you already haven't (you will probably be confused by the flashbacks if you don't). Like Better Call Saul it's ...

Re: Treasury Direct account security discussion at Bogleheads
Exactly my point but we apparently see things in reverse as to whether or not that is a good thing.grapesofwrath wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2019 8:36 amI would think Treasury Direct is safer than Vanguard/Schwab/Fidelity because it has virtually no customer service.

Re: Financial Planning Software
I use Personal Capital. Haven't found anything that compares for free. You might be contacted by a "personal adviser" trying to sell you active management but they do know how to take no for an answer if you give it to them straight. You have to give them access to all your accounts if you want real...

Re: The Left is Eating Itself Pt. II
The history of math and science is interesting. Still, in *math* class, I suspect math majors (graduates) would prefer to just teach math. My first-year college calculus class had a "history of math" extension (one hour a week in the evenings) as part of the honors program. I found it very interest...

Not sure if anyone’s noticed, but the flow of information on the internet has changed a bit since Drudge was a “major influence” TWENTY YEARS AGO. I may travel in too small of circles but almost everyone I talk to about politics who identifies as a conservative or right leaning libertarian still sa...

Re: Texas Statewide Proposition 9, November 2019 Election
If that sounds like a paranoid delusion on my part, well excuse me. I've seen such paranoid delusions come to fruition on this hostile planet we live on. Very unlikely yes, impossible no. Ask people in South Vietnam and Venezuela. It's not paranoid and not delusional. No need to apologize. Hey isn'...

I only keep my physical gold where I can get my physical hands on it any time I want. If somebody like Elizabeth Warren gets elected she's going to need around 32 trillion dollars to fulfill her campaign promises just for Medicare for all and that was before the latest thing I read that she said tod...
