Re: Tim Price discussing the HBPP in the current economy

Also I would argue that the PP is balanced to deflation as well. Long bonds and cash.

Re: Tim Price discussing the HBPP in the current economy

What resonates with me and seems reasonable is another simple formula. Precious metals, value stocks, and commodity trend following. The CTA's seems very interesting to me, because they are market neutral. I have been following one CTA and were up 37 percent last year, net of fees. The only reason I...

Re: 2022 Returns

One thing I am proud of is that I worked up the courage to purchase 30 year treasuries recently. One interesting thing about the PP / GB is that it makes you confront financial behaviors. I was talking to a friend and telling him that your body physically will not allow you to step off a cliff. Tha...

Re: 2022 Returns

I haven’t looked, but did anyone hit any rebalance bands? I did on my gold when it spiked to 2k but I did not follow the rules! But I’ve been pretty good since. One way I have been able to force my reluctance to buy losers is to “go halfsies” if I need to buy / sell something, I give myself license...

Re: 2022 Returns

Don’t have the one year performance offhand but I I’m down about 12 percent from the high on my modified GB. That’s vs 31 percent of the peak on my stock only portfolio. I think my 1 year performance was more like -13.9 but its a modified GB with a tech heavy mutual fund thrown in. No small cap val...

Re: Question for SilentMajority about Information Sources

One more thing. I think the NYT is basically garbage. I cant even put on my rotation because every time I go ten words deep into an article I have the overwhelming urge to throw it in the trash.

Re: Question for SilentMajority about Information Sources

Some sources I am turning to. zerohedge.com peakprosperity podcast and newsletter goldsilver.com - they have a section with news that’s very interesting. Ron Paul’s podcast I’m a fan of the Quoth The Raven podcast. I like what someone said “compare 180’s” because it seems a lot of media has an agen...

Re: Died Suddenly

I just heard from a friend who said their 36 year old brother in good health died suddenly. I am wondering if I should talk to them about this film.

It may be too painful for them and not helpful.

Re: Fidelity Gold, Silver, Platinum, and Palladium Trading

One interesting thing is I researched this a while back and Google mapped the company / storage facility that Fidelity uses for this service. On the website they have a very tight close up of the company sign. When I zoomed out it looked like a shack in an urban parking lot and I was pretty sure I h...

Re: DIY Real Estate

@mathjak - Very interesting story about the tax lien adventure. I was thinking about 50k houses in the southeast and hopefully getting around 650 to 750 per month out of them. And maybe after all expenses getting down to a one percent rent-to-value ($500). Also that way, if it's a disaster probably ...

Re: DIY Real Estate

I was thinking that if I had taken a conservative real estate path out of college, I may have been able to mostly retire at 30 to 35. Part of it was based on the fact that my technical degree gave me a better than average salary, the other part of it was that I was from a very nice but relatively c...

Re: Huh, 1/N Asset Allocation is Quite Robust

For the wonky types. https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=4281138 And of course, 1/N is how the PP does it. Thanks! And now I also know about SSRN.com. I've started thinking in terms of this 1/N for infrastructure projects as well (my job). Like 1/4 cost of capital, 1/4 cost of ongoi...

I am using the secure notes feature in LastPass to let my executor access all my secrets Do change your passwords, Dave. See my sig. I use KeyPass, which I store in dropbox. Anyone know any security risks with it? I was always apprehensive about LastPass which prevented me from ever deciding to use...

Re: Logistics of Large Quanties o' Physical Gold

I am extremely weary of anything that aggregates passwords that is not in my control, because I do not want to think about WHEN it gets hacked. But I am definitely open to hearing otherwise. I recently heard of a local unix password store / encrypter. I think it is called pass. https://www.passwords...

Re: Another Gold ETF post

Agree with the general feeling on a Chinese holding company. However, I think the location, local laws in effect and the auditing/auditor is probably more important. If the vault is in the US or UK with a western auditing firm I'm not that concerned. Move the vault to Bejing, use a non-western Euro...
