Contrarianism
Contrarianism. It's the quality that is often touted as being necessary for being a successful investor. The ability to detach yourself from the crowd temperamentally and do the opposite of what one's instincts and emotions are telling them to do. This is a quality that almost every investor enuncia...

Re: How many brokerage firms are you using?
Indeed I remember Swedroe remarking that filtering out the junk or "lottery ticket" stocks from a portfolio, particularly of small caps, greatly improved results. Removing these crappy securities even from total market indexes seemed to improve the portfolio across the board. Interestingly, one way ...

Re: Speculators Anonymous
I am and always have been deep into the Graham and Dodd value philosophy. I'm currently on the trail of Michael Burry (yes, that one) and looking at some of his fairly recent filings for his value holdings. https://whalewisdomalpha.com/michael-burrys-scion-13f-holdings/ Definitely looking to add to ...

I'd like to chime in here with a link and perspective. https://youtu.be/3EzdvkRgToY That link is to a Yale lecture done by Robert Shiller on efficient markets. Right around the 42 minute mark he talks about technical analysis. Shiller, tellingly, recalls a story where he presses Burton Malkiel on wh...

Re: Treasury Yield Curve - June 3 2019
I hate to be "that guy" that starts making market/economic predictions of any kind. The PP is about conceding that we can't accurately predict the future. Nonetheless, just for fun, I'd opine that the next few years in the global economy will likely be incredibly tumultuous and really test the mett...

Just one: Wealthsimple Trade.
Literally zero fees of any kind. I’ll take that over brokerage diversification any day.

Yeah, as I mentioned: it was a contentious statement. I'm still willing to stand on it.boglerdude wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2019 1:12 amVanguards small value has the same PE as total market. Youre paying the same price for a basket of weaker companies.

Re: How do you invest the stock portion?
I personally highly recommend factor tilting the PP’s equity allocation to small and value regimes rather than using total market indices.
Just my 2 cents though. Lots will disagree with the assertion.

Yup, if you go to the top left corner of the interface there's a little button (typically called a hamburger). This button has options that includes sorting by latest post and active topics.

Re: Swiss banks looking for US clients again
I know that the canonical PP philosophy is to have some assets outside of your home country, but I just can't bring myself to do it so far. Mentally I can't help but equate all forms of gold that I can't hold in my hands as being the same. Whether it's an ETF, Perth Mint, Swiss service, etc. I'm cog...
