Has anybody seen American Factory on Netflix? Very interesting.
No, but I will definitely watch it now. Thank you for the recommendation.

Being of Asian descent myself, all this talk about China lately does pique my interest.

Re: focus on income in VP?

I've held a Graham-ian view of preferred shares for a long time, admittedly not thinking too much about it own my own terms. Graham described preferreds as being a hybrid between stocks and bonds, with the worst qualities of each. None of the profit potential of common stock, but none of the securit...

Re: Ray Dalio: The Three Big Issues and the 1930s Analogue

Dalio is such a smart man, and he deserves to be listened to just as much as any other financial authority, yet people often discount his perspectives. You know who apparently really listens to Dalio? The Chinese financial community. It's strange: Dalio's own countrymen are somewhat deaf to his view...

Re: Stock scream room

*Sigh* Guys, ever the tinkerer I am: 100% of the stock portion of my PP is now officially value tilted via: BMO MSCI Canada Value Index ETF - https://www.bmo.com/gam/ca/advisor/products/etfs?fundUrl=/fundProfile/ZVC#fundUrl=%2FfundProfile%2FZVC and Vanguard Global Value Factor ETF - https://www.vang...

Re: Bubble in Passive Investing?

I'm quite conflicted on the issue because I quite like Michael Burry. However, I think that may be cognitive bias because I think I "know" him thanks to Christian Bale in the movie. On the other hand, I did read up on him extensively after watching The Big Short. His insights into value investing an...

Re: Acquiring gold as privately as possible

The privacy aspect has always had me buying from a local dealer in cash. In the absolute worst case political scenario, I don't want the big G knowing I have gold based on my bank account transactions. I always drive, so that way my car is a moving suit of armour that can protect me on the way home....

Re: How do real estate holding play in the PP

I remember Browne being quite funny about real estate holdings in terms of their relationship to investment.

"When real estate prices go up you can't just sell off your front porch to rebalance your portfolio." or something to that effect. ;D

Re: Stock scream room

I've done some tinkering myself. Not anything particularly drastic, but enough to be noteworthy. I've added a value tilt to the stock portion of my portfolio via the Vanguard Global Value Factor ETF (VVL). However, my total stock weighting is still the canonical 25% in the aggregate. In my VP I've b...
