Re: BTC in the PP

Maybe I was vague originally…..yes “time value of money” is a human preference weighted in time / opportunity cost. What I should have stated is that the “rule” of a dollar today is worth more than a dollar tomorrow is a symptom of a fiat economy. (Not a law of nature / applicable to all forms of mo...

Re: BTC in the PP

Time value of money is a fiat concept. It does not exist as a law of nature….only in a fiat economy. In all honesty I’m not against the fiat economy….to me, hold debt in fiat and wealth in BTC. It’s the perfect recipe! Time value of money is a human fact and has nothing to do with fiat, its directl...

Agree…..the statement “If voting made a difference it would be illegal” is manifesting truer and truer. Should be socially acceptable to not comprise your integrity and pick the lesser of two evils.

Re: BTC in the PP

“...There is no safe store of value. If there were, the government would have to make its holding illegal, as was done in the case of gold.” -Greenspan (1966) This is what Bitcoin aims to do. Store energy / labor spent in the form of money through time. Time value of money is a fiat concept. It does...

Re: Why isn't gold moving?

The inflation is flowing into commodities we need (like oil, lumber & copper), assets the government supports (sovereign, corporate, & residential debt), & rapidly growing technology that is reshaping our world (FAANG, #Bitcoin). Gold & silver don't check any of these boxes. - Michae...

Re: Bitcoin as a complement or alternative to gold in the PP

Good to see this forum moving (even if slightly) to the concept holding a portion of BTC within PP. I’ve been dwelling on this nearly 7yrs....and want help! Addressing the topic of the thread..my initial thoughts were that BTC would eventually (- 20yrs) assume a nice of role of 20% taking 5% from ea...

A government digital currency is inevitable and the invention of Bitcoin probably expedited this.....from a government standpoint its perfect....tracing and taxing every penny sent, controlling the supply, freezing user accounts, .....its a government god send. for bitcoin....The question arises.......

I haven’t listened to the Money Talk archives in a few years, but I think so.
yes he did. from what I recall...something along the lines of too large of a market / too many people to influence to hold the manipulation.

Re: Rethinking the Permanent Portfolio

When any crypto begins to wrack up serious transaction value, governments will be involved. Anyone who does not believe this I think is delusional. This I agree with....the question becomes WILL they do anything about it? - If yes, ....CAN they do anything about it? - - Government CANNOT control Bi...

Libra is pegged to US dollar. (AKA not a gold replacement) Facebook will be the bank. Government will regulate / have oversight over facebook as they are subject to money transmission rules and somewhat accountable for their users actions. Re: Time to Return to the Gold Standard?

1. I'm saying inflation does not of itself discourage savers unless a positive real rate of return is not achievable. No doubt negative real rates do happen from time to time and that does tend to discourage saving (or so we thought...but now we have negative yielding sovereign bonds.) 2. "Res...

1. Wrong. That's why we have "real" interest rates. Without real interest rates no one in their right mind would save anything. And this does not change in a fixed monetary system. 2. Why did you duck answering the hardest question I put to you? Read up on on the 1930s and provide the ans...
