Re: MCD

As much as I love gourmet burgers, there is a special place in my heart for MCD foods, even though they are by all objective measures inferior. It must have to do with childhood memories.

Re: The Republican Brain?

astrology.png Fair enough... but you have to look at the other side. What is the fraction of Republican voters, and especially high-conviction Trump supporters who believe the Bible is literally true, factual, and scientific? It's very, very high. I don't even need to see a study, because I used to...

Re: The Bond Dream Room

We're now at that weird, sick place where 1-year Jumbo CDs from my local credit union have APR 2.06%, for which you'd have to go out to 20+ years on a US Treasury (sigh).

The ghost of Bernanke, I swear.

I checked my Vanguard Roth IRA just now, and my gold position (SGOL) has grown by 10x since the last time I checked two weeks ago!

Re: The Republican Brain?

The over-arching problem is Americans are incapable of critical thinking, especially as relates to anything quantitative. That's why most of the young scientists and engineers are of Asian (Sinitic or Indic) cultural backgrounds. Americans would rather teach their kids to be gender fluid strippers t...

Re: I bond rate November 2019

The fixed rate is reduced to 0.2%, from the previous 0.5%. The inflation rate is 2.02%, so new bonds would pay a total of 2.22%. The 0.5% variety will (eventually) pay 2.52%...nice! If you haven't bought I bonds in 2019 I expect you aren't going to, since we all kinda knew the fixed rate would go d...

Re: is investing in stocks "immoral"?

I think it is a company’s basic job to make money and the government’s basic job to make regulations and laws. It would be nice to be in a system where companies aren’t allowed to be considered as people and finance those who make the laws. There should be separation of corporate and state... Well ...

Re: S&P 500

I need to be educated on the issue of low volumes but if I am going to buy and hold this ETF in my PP for many, many years (I hope), what is the issue for me purchasing this instead of a higher volume etf? For buy and hold, definitely choose lower expense ratios. You just don't want a tiny $20 mill...

Re: Tactical Asset Allocation + HBPP an intriguing combo

The GEM portfolio is in US Equities for November 2019 (SPY, IVV, VOO, SCHX). It's early to call it, but a change is highly unlikely.
