Re: Stock scream room

Harry Dent is now selling a -70 to -90% stock market decline narrative. -90% would bring us back to July August 1987.

Re: Gold taxation thoughts

You can donate any appreciated security to a Donor Advised Fund. This lets you avoid cap gains tax and get a current year tax deduction. Then you can write checks to any charity at any time. I heard a good podcast from Schwab Charitable today. Good way to get rid of gold ETF shares.

Who knows what the future holds, jhogue.
It's very tempting to just have a large stock-heavy vp with zaftig dividends.
DWX foreign dividend stock ETF yielding 3.3% now. I own this one.
SCHD yields 3.18 (SEC yield) and no foreign currency risk...
Yup, that's a good one too

Re: Stock scream room

Re: Low volatility

I know this doesn't answer your question, but right now the VIX is below 12, when it gets below 12 it's a bad sign for future volatility, since Feb 2018. It gets crushed to 12, then pops back up. It's kind of a pattern. Who knows if it goes off again?

1 year Treasuries are 1.56%, I think 2.06% for a 1 year CD is the better choice. No one is promising us any rose gardens here, we're just trying to make the least bad choices.

Seems like a good argument for holding some Apple and Microsoft.
Apple and Microsoft as the VP then? Or Apple as Core? ;D

What better argument for equal-weighting in your stock allocation? (Lisa A. always has the best tweets).

Whatever you do, only use a brokerage where you can buy without paying a trading commission. Schwab, Fidelity, TD Ameritrade, Interactive Brokers "Lite" platform.

Re: Thoughts on Emerging Markets?

Fully one fifth of the equity portfolio of my portfolio is invested in emerging markets. Emerging markets SCV to be exact. ... It stands to reason that the market will then price emerging market stocks to have higher expected returns. This is doubly true for the SCV regime. How long have you held e...
