Re: How was the PP experience in 2008?

http://www.peaktotrough.com/hbpp.cgi Very interesting to look at 2008 on a month-to-month basis. To blackomen's question, it looks like October was the only really painful month as stocks were plunging but gold and LTTs were also going down. Gold & LTTs were already on the way back up in November a...

Re: How was the PP experience in 2008?

Excellent question and one that I have been wondering about as well. I just implemented the PP at the beginning of this year and it's easy to get the impression that it just goes up. On the other hand, it stunk being in just stocks and shorter term bonds in 2008. I know how THAT felt and it wasn't g...

Trying to figure out the ACA

I need some help with figuring out what insurance to buy under the ACA. My basic issue is that I don't know who the expert is who I can pay to help me figure out what the best health insurance option is for me. For example, I recently met with a college financial planner and was able to figure out a...

Re: How do "you" trade physical gold in a PP?

Hello Cortopassi, I am not exactly a veteran of the PP having only set mine up two months ago. It seems that all folks when they first set up a PP tend to monitor the four asset classes quite closely at first and I am no exception. But what I have noticed is that a terrible day for stocks, gold or L...

Re: Solo Roth IRA with Vanguard or Fidelity (Help!)

Dozha, Just realized that earlier in the thread I offered Dualstow a cut of the action as well. Might have to drop you down to 5% of the action. Just searching for my checkbook now. Not sure what I am going to do with the rest of my life once I get this remaining PP slice set up.

Re: Solo Roth IRA with Vanguard or Fidelity (Help!)

Dualstow & Dozha... Just got off the line with TD Ameritrade. The solo 401(k) Roth sounds easy to set up with them with the LTT, Stock and Gold options Dozha mentioned (among many others). Their catch, and it's a tiny one, is that in order to open a solo 401(k) Roth, one also has to have a regular s...

Re: Solo Roth IRA with Vanguard or Fidelity (Help!)

Thank you, Dozha. That is a big help! I'll talk to them and see if they can just do a solo 401(k) Roth without requiring that the regular solo 401(k) be moved there as well. And, as agreed, you get 10% of all our future tax-free profits.  ;)

Re: Solo Roth IRA with Vanguard or Fidelity (Help!)

What about another institution like E-Trade? Anyone have any experience setting up a respectable PP mix with them? I am specifically dealing with the headache described above with Fidelity and Vanguard regarding a solo 401(k) Roth account, but welcome anyone's input on whether, in general, there are...

Re: Solo Roth IRA with Vanguard or Fidelity (Help!)

Dualstow, it sounds like both Fidelity and Vanguard are taking baby steps toward resolving this but neither has any clue when these roadblocks will be lifted... at least not at the level of the employees I was able to talk to. Please don't throw in the towel based on what I was told. Maybe you can g...

Solo Roth IRA with Vanguard or Fidelity (Help!)

I ran into a roadblock with Fidelity and Vanguard yesterday and I am looking for suggestions. If one is self-employed the solo 401(k) is a great way to get a lot of money into a retirement account quickly. I recently set up one of these at Fidelity for my wife and we plan to deploy the PP in that ac...

Re: Protection against a sharp drop

Actually, if the PP has a weakness, it's that its boring returns during bull markets for stocks can make it very tempting to abandon the strategy.  In other words, PP investors should probably fear stock market advances more than they should fear stock market declines. But that is mostly because in...

Re: Heresy - market timing

Thank you Sophie and stuper1 for those answers. I am such a turkey for not seeing the obvious... that a rebalancing out of bonds would be very likely if yields got very low. I would have made money at that point and sold some bonds at a nice profit. OK, I will try to come up with something else to w...
