Re: Would you wear a mask?

We have several home made masks and the masks get washed when we get home, along with taking a shower. We will start doing this with our homemade cloth masks very soon. We always come in the basement from the garage and the washing machine is just next to the door. The design on ours is two elastic...

Re: Negative interest rates

Thanks for that, d.

I am just using this thread to get myself used to this low-yield world. The six-month treasuries that I bought the other day will each pay less than 17 cents on a face value of $1,000 if held to maturity. The one-year treasuries bought at the same time will each pay 46 cents.

Re: Negative interest rates

I will not renew them, barrett, but will leave the proceeds from matured bills to buy stocks and, if I can find them, some more gold coins. Thanks for posting that, dualstow. Can you clarify if it is the paltry rate of interest that is pushing you away from T-Bills? Would you just be buying somethi...

Re: Baseball?

Sure. Have you read the stuff about the hot hand fallacy? Malcolm Gladwell and others have written about that. Essentially a guy is "hot" not because he is in the zone mentally or physically, but because he's getting results that are within a normal range of statistical probability considering his a...

Re: Baseball?

My question to those reading this is to tell me if you also don't know who Aaron Judge is. I don't want anyone telling us who he is. Just want to hear from those who have no idea who he is. My daughter took me and my wife to a Yankees game in 2017 and Aaron Judge hit a dinger to left center that tr...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

https://coronavirus.1point3acres.com/enCapture.JPG This was a good find, Vinny. Have stickied that one. One thing that doesn't make sense to me though is how the mortality rates are being calculated. It seems to me that the only numbers that count for now are the number of people that have died and...

Cortopassi, if you don't mind...

Where is your wife from originally? Mine is from Shenyang, China (Liaoning Province).

I am posting a bit more now but trying not to overdo it.

Re: Internet Comments

I am starting to think moda, Vinny and I are the only left leaning people on this forum anymore... ;) Left leaning also. But today's left seems to be way to the left of me as I age. I also hate all the trolling in comments sections and just don't read them anymore. People should not behave totally ...

Re: Would you wear a mask?

With lots of free time now that she is unemployed - and she's super industrious anyway - my wife made a few cloth masks yesterday that we can wear out in public and then just wash with our regular laundry. These were just made from old kerchiefs like Mark Leavy mentioned in one of his posts. Fabric ...

Re: Negative interest rates

We had a bunch of T-Bills mature at Fidelity today. I replaced those will more T-Bills with maturities between six and 12 months out. The interest on these was ever so slightly positive. Has anyone else been buying individual treasuries as opposed to a fund like SHY?

Re: Would you wear a mask?

Masks also discourage healthy, uninfected people from touching their faces. I think the early hypothesis was that wearing a mask would encourage people to touch their faces as they would constantly be adjusting the mask. pug, as a dentist, you surely wear a mask, right? It definitely takes a while ...
