Trump's economic entanglements

Is anyone even remotely concerned about Trump's economic entanglements. See, for example, this article http://www.newsweek.com/2016/09/23/donald-trump-foreign-business-deals-national-security-498081.html Of course, most of this is completely opaque since he never released his taxes (how the fuck did...

Re: Trump's Effect on the PP

The Japan or USA can't default on their outstanding national debt because there's no liquidity limitation (unlike Europe). What you mean is that there's no rational reason whatsoever for Japan or the US (or any other independent currency issuer) to default. I agree with this. Where we might disagre...

Re: Trump's Effect on the PP

Trump will likely increase the debt by trying to lower taxes and other stimulus measures while at the same time saying interest rates are too low. Not at all sure what will happen though, since it is Trump. Trump will actually do whatever is best for Trump. First order of business is drastically re...

From http://gflec.org/sp-global-finlit-survey-methodology/ Survey Questions The financial literacy questions address five basic dimensions of financial comprehension on the individual level (correct answers in bold):   Risk Diversification Suppose you have some money. Re: GlobalGold.ch

I have read "The Permanent Portfolio" by Craig Rowland and J. M. Lawson and applied for the service of globalgold.ch which is recommended in the book. Welcome! Everyone here knows this but might forget that newbies might not.  Both authors at least occasionally post here.  Craig Rowland as craigr (...

Re: Running shoes/sneakers

Shawn, What tennis shoe maker do you recommend? I play singles twice a week. New Balance is this best. They will last 6 months which is more than any other brand I have tried. Careful with that.  New Balance has shifted production for many of its shoes to places like Vietnam, with minor differences...

Re: Dear Idiots at the EPA,

This is definitely a concern. Unless, maybe it isn't: see https://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/glyphosate-the-new-bogeyman/ or http://www.newyorker.com/news/daily-comment/roundup-and-risk-assessment BTW - MG's quote is from here: http://www.anh-usa.org/action-alert-tell-the-epa-to-ban-glyphosate/ I...

My bad.  But, correlation is not causation.
Indeed it's not.  But a correlation that seems to have stood up for 400,000 years might be something you want to pay attention to.

Re: Well, I guess it's us

However, not even trying to do anything about things we can clearly see will be very, very bad seems a tad defeatist.  I don't think of it so much as defeatist as realistic. Spend a week in Jakarta.  Just one city in Indonesia.  You could give everyone in California a Prius and it wouldn't offset t...

Re: Well, I guess it's us

Ah, the infamous Hockey Stick chart.  Nope - it's a CO2 chart, not a temperature chart.  We'll see what the temperature chart looks like in a 1000 years (or, our children's children's children's children's children's children's children's children's children's children's children's children's child...

Re: Well, I guess it's us

I don't understand the debate about whether AGW is real or not. It doesn't matter one iota. There is not a single predictive model that works. There is no therapeutic remedy that could be implemented in today's world. There are plenty of global catastrophic risks that we really can't do anything ab...
