Re: Not Even Harry Browne Thought It Was Going To Be This Bad

[quote author=Gumby link=topic=4852.msg71286#msg71286 My overall point, technovelist, is that you have allowed your political biases to drive your investment decisions, which is rarely a good idea . [/quote] And my overall point is that you are wrong. You can believe whatever you want, of course, bu...

Re: Should My Mom Get Life Insurance?

That doesn't sound very complex to me. In my opinion, it would be quite reasonable for her to get $250K of 15-year level term life insurance. Not a financial expert, do your own diligence, etc. Thanks, tech. Ad, Estate tax is not an issue, and I'm a Tax geek and understand social security so I'm su...

Re: Bonds: mechanism to set floor interest rate

Specifically regarding being a floor on interest rates: Suppose a government issues a 1-month bond at 5% interest. What bank or corporation could possibly sell a CD or bond for any duration at, say, 4%? Or 3%? Nobody would buy them, preferring the government bond instead. This is because during nor...

"The Ludwig von Mises Institute (LvMI), or simply "Mises Institute", located in Auburn, Alabama, is an American organization named for Austrian School economist Ludwig von Mises (1881-1973). Its website states that it is "the world center of the Austrian School of economics and libertarian politica...

Re: Everything Is Up Today

Hi. After all of the recent negativity with the Permanent Portfolio I wanted to start a thread that would be positive and uplifting. Being that all 4 asset classes were up today, I thought that this might be a great time. Please remember, the future is unknowable but your financial plan is not. Cas...

Re: Extreme irony

I agree. Statess societies do seem very fragile, if only because they would be so threatening to governments that no matter how strong they were, they would be the target of a great deal of state violence. So there goes the anarchist end of the continuum. But none of us want communism, fascism, dic...

Re: Record Stretch of 7.5%+ Unemployment Continues

Am I being an "Internet tough guy?" I know I throw a bit of snark in here or there, but I find the discussion of liberty and government to be very interesting and I appreciate anyone willing to engage in productive debate. When I said "move out" and "renounce your citizenship" I didn't mean that ne...

Do you need to provide a notarized statement saying that is why you are holding to maturity? :D

Re: Record Stretch of 7.5%+ Unemployment Continues

technovelist, please don't let that guy get to you. I appreciate your concern, but if "internet tough guys" could ever rattle me, it was a long time ago... probably before the internet. By the way, I knew HB personally (although as an acquaintance, not a close friend), and believe I understand his ...

I believe he used to blog for DFA, which IMO is a snake-oil outfit that has funds with a wonderful track record... that was made up by backtesting.

Re: Record Stretch of 7.5%+ Unemployment Continues

Technovelist, Please enlighten us what complications lie in renouncing your citizenship.  And what control the US government has over you if you choose not to, but move overseas. You are perfectly capable of doing your own research, but since you are happy here, it would be a waste of time for you ...
