Re: The Decline of Violence

I've argued that the state is like a dragon or unicorn and doesn't exist, because it really doesn't . It's like claiming a forest exists because you see a bunch of trees. The forest doesn't really exist, only the trees exist, it's just easy and conveinent to call it a forest. The government doesn't...

Re: The Decline of Violence

supporting statisim as a solution to problem"A" but wanting the state out of your life to solve problem "B,C,and D " wouldn't make you a statist, yes you would be a statist in regards to your position on issue "A" but the term statist does not describe accurately your overall beliefs, somebody wh...

Re: The Decline of Violence

." Some people could claim that a social safety net is a "system that fosters liberty," because it ensures some level of financial security for everyone atop which we can feel free to take risks.  We also have people who pound their chest about how our massive military "protects our freedoms."  So ...

Re: Geeks for Monarchy: The Rise of the Neoreactionaries

"It’s not hard to see why this ideology would catch-on with white male geeks. It tells them that they are the natural rulers of the world, but that they are simultaneously being oppressed by a secret religious order." Now why in the world would straight white males feel anyone has anything against ...

Re: GTU

I should have said "always use limit orders with GTU". That's because it has very low volume and the bid/ask spread can be much larger than with other higher-volume securities including CEF.

Re: GTU

Can someone talk me out of selling GLD and buying GTU? 1.  GTU expenses are a little lower 2.  GTU is held outside of the U.S. 3.  GTU has favorable tax treatment. 4.  GTU holds physical gold vs paper gold 5.  GTU has a better audit than the others 6.  I get a tax loss to sell GLD. 7.  I OK with fo...

Re: The Decline of Violence

It sucks having to follow rules and being punished when one doesn't, but it certainly makes it easier to grow crops and store grain when one doesnt have to worry about being ransacked by a neighboring tribe. The king takes a portion of my labor sure, but before this when I got ransacked they took e...

Re: The Decline of Violence

Im not disagreeing with Kshartle that violence is wrong, I'm just saying that it is unfortunately necessary. How can something be wrong and neccessary? Can it be neccessary for me to do something wrong? Please give an example so I can better understand the concept. That's the doctrine of "necessary...

Re: The Decline of Violence

I think this might be a misunderstanding. I am not against governments per se, I am however against the initiation of force. Governments perform many useful functions that would also be necessary when they forego the initiation of force. It is (imo) the claimed right to the initiation of force that...

Re: The Decline of Violence

If you want to talk about improving government, I can have that discussion, but its total elimination is so utterly unrealistic that its a waste of time to even discuss. I think this might be a misunderstanding. I am not against governments per se, I am however against the initiation of force. Gove...

Re: Who Killed Kennedy?

When I have read the book I linked to before, I'll let you know how good its arguments are. Try reading the one I linked to. It's by far the most exhaustive work on the subject. And it explores in detail all of the major, and many of the minor, conspiracy theories. It is available in most well stoc...
