Re: Environmentalism poses a problem for libertarian ideology

So why not hold the AMA responsible for their own actions, and not blame their actions on the existence of "government". That's a good question. And perhaps I should. But I also think that government is just too irresistible an opportunity for the strong to use it to oppress the weak. That's why th...

Re: Gold: Deep in bear market with a grim outlook

They say when gold hits $225-$310 most of the damage will likely be behind us. That's down 80-90 percent. Bunch of math majors. Wonder how many of us here could hold to gold $225 ? I would say that if gold gets to $950 most of the damage would certainly be behind us... as that would be down over 50...

Re: Environmentalism poses a problem for libertarian ideology

The libertarian position on that issue is that people who are harmed by negative externalities have the right to sue for damages. The only problem with the lawsuit method is that the playing field is not level.  A large corporation is going to beat, say, a small community that got used as a toxic w...

Re: May you live in interesting times....

I am not looking back 40 or 100 years, PS. I am referring to large govt with an obtrusive nanny society vs. the opposite. I get that. And I'm highly sympathetic to that view. But I still don't see a lot of difference between the parties if this is the lens one looks through. Are Medicare and Social...

Ok, so the solution is to become a powerful and well-connected banker. Why didn't I think of that?  :P

Re: May you live in interesting times....

That is one of the reasons that it always surprises me that a person can have such intense hatred for one political party without also hating the other political party as well. If you believe that the government has most of the answers to society's problems, then the difference between Democrat and...

Re: May you live in interesting times....

I agree that the Rs and Ds are virtually indistinguishable. Of course, I'm not too far left for either of them, but rather above them on the "Nolan chart". That is one of the reasons that it always surprises me that a person can have such intense hatred for one political party without also hating t...

Re: May you live in interesting times....

Following the election of a far-left president and the passage of Obamacare, the progressives appear to be more emboldened than ever ... Me thinks the far left would disagree with you on that... Anyone capable of seeing President Obama’s policies and not be confused by the Democratic Party label or...

We need a Texas get-together. I'm in Dallas but could definitely go to Austin on pretty much any weekend.

Re: Variable Annuity

Cosigning a loan is the same as lending the money yourself, only worse because it affects your credit score if the other borrower doesn't pay on time. I'd pay off the loan, even if you have to take money out of investments. Then cut your expenses to something reasonable for your assets. The annuity ...

Re: Environmentalism poses a problem for libertarian ideology

I know a lot of you guys are both libertarians and also climate change skeptics so I wondered what you all made of this: http://mattbruenig.com/2011/12/21/environmentalism-poses-a-problem-for-libertarian-ideology/ No story about freedom and property rights can ever justify the pollution of the air ...
