Re: GOP defending Confederate legacy?

Here's another thought experiment, two sides of the coin. A black guy walks into a gym full of white people. That's one side of the coin. The other side is a white guy walks into a gym full of black people. Which one of these two people likely subjectively feels more fear in his mind, the black guy ...

Re: GOP defending Confederate legacy?

Now, you're getting it. Pull down all the statues. I think Aristotle was the tutor of Alexander the Great, and Alexander had slaves. Therefore, any statue of Aristotle needs to come down. And any books that have Aristotle's ideas in them need to be burned.

Re: GOP defending Confederate legacy?

It's an interesting thought experiment: what would happen if the Conservative Club at the University of Washington started a riot and pulled down the statues of Marx and Lenin? I imagine they would get arrested, charged with vandalism, and made to pay restitution and penalties. However, when Black L...

Re: Where would you move?

I don't really know much about them, but they might be good alternatives to Boulder, which I fear is hugely liberal at this point, not based on personal experience but just what I've read. Anyone with half a mind to think for themselves probably wouldn't be welcome in Boulder. I was in Fort Collins ...

Re: GOP defending Confederate legacy?

Marx and Lenin were pacifistic figures whose ideas and actions never hurt a flea. Why should anyone care what happens to their statues?

Re: A good analysis of the rioting

I personally admire the intellectual honesty of Sam Harris in so far as he seems to be a very ardent advocate for the truth. In this regard I have never seen him address an issue from the standpoint of having a personal agenda other than to have conversation based on facts, and when it strays from ...

Re: Is Trump doing a good job?

I don't think the DOJ can shut down a publication for having false claims. We have this thing called the First Amendment. It's a pretty high bar to get over.

Bolton will say anything that will advance militarism. If he's against Trump, that's a very good sign that Trump is doing something right.

Re: Concrete Actions to Address Systemic Racism

Systemic racism would be racism that is built into the system. From what I can tell from the responses on this thread, the only in-built racism at this point is affirmative action programs, which are supposedly trying to help minorities but likely hurt more than they help. I think what a lot of peop...

Re: Concrete Actions to Address Systemic Racism

No, it was inspired by me believing that there is no systemic racism but being told that I'm blinded by my white privilege. I haven't seen anything here to change my belief, although it is evolving a bit. I think the riots we're seeing now are due not to actual systemic racism that still exists, but...

Re: Where would you move?

Southern Utah is nice if you like the outdoors and want a drier climate and a conservative political environment. I wasn't aware that people actually live in Southern Utah. One of the most barren places I've been to in all of the U.S.A. but an awesome place to visit. I believe St. George is the lar...
