Re: Death is Optional, But So Are People

This is why I mentioned the possibility of a repeat of the Dark Ages.  I'm sure during the Roman Empire such a thing could not have been imagined, but it happened.

Re: School Choice Upheld in Alabama

I think that at some point, once private schools are even indirectly getting govt money, they will be forced into toeing the govt line.

Re: When the cops are the criminals

I am getting this second hand from a relative, but I'm told that the Chicago detention center thing got a pretty thorough looking into by local media after the Guardian article, and even the defense attys scoffed at the report.  This is a problem with the internet, and we all tend to believe things ...

Re: What is a left libertarian?

All the Marxist-libertarian concepts are lunacy.  Can't they remember the soviet revolution and all that came after?  That's what I figure left libertarianism is about, more or less.  I must be off base, because they can't be that stupid. At least regular libertarianism worked in its short heyday, u...

Re: Guns and crime

Since private handguns are banned in the UK, now they've had to start regulating knives.  I wonder why?

What is a left libertarian?

Oh, I know I could look it up.  But on the surface, it seems an impossible contradiction.  Maybe neither right nor left should be used as modifiers of libertarianism.  So I'm guessing, it's someone who believes in being left alone and leaving alone, other than having government tax heavily and provi...

Re: When the cops are the criminals

Honestly this business about the Chicago PD needs its own thread. Color me skeptical until we see some verification.  Also, I did not see any tanks, huge or otherwise, in the photo. Here is a better look at the same photo.  I thought maybe I could make google maps move down the street for other loo...

Re: Will the gold market survive the atomic-scale personal manufacturing future?

If the replicator was able to make T-bone steak and cabernet, why couldn't it make latinum? Wait, I just did a search.  Apparently this has been asked and answered, lol: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Replicator_(Star_Trek) The drawback of doing so is that it is impossible to replicate objects with c...

Re: Defending Against Hackers of the Future

Do they stick to English dictionaries for American accounts?  Mixing a couple of languages ought to help.

Re: Defending Against Hackers of the Future

A dictionary attack won't guess four random whole words that are in the dictionary?  I'm skeptical.  4^4? I think it would take a very long time. Is that because the attacks aren't looking for words, but rather for letters?  Or are there true dictionary attacks being used?  If so, I feel the same w...
