Re: 2014 PP performance

I only got 5.6%.  My stocks are split roughly 50-50 US-Intl.  And I have a good chunk of foreign bond exposure too.

It seemed like a good idea at the time, lol.

Oil price is dropping, we're doomed!

According the the stock market, and the vested-interest men of the moment interviewed on mainstream media.

Re: Long Run Expectations For PP

I remain unconvinced that the PP should do any better than 2% real in the long run.  Meaning, a few generations, or 100 years, or however you want to look at it.  That's why I said 30 years is nothing as far as predicting investment returns.  I think we kid ourselves by backtesting.  Let's look at e...

Re: Mixed Europe/US Permanent Portfolio

I'm American.  My PP is a lot like what frugal posted above.  I decided a few years ago to mix international exposure into the stocks and bonds.  Some years I think it helped, but mostly lately it has hurt.  But, that's to be expected.  I don't know if my way is better than Harry Browne's way, but I...

Can we all agree that there are too many laws?
And that more laws means more police enforcement?

Long Run Expectations For PP

What are your expectations for long run REAL rate of return for the PP, and why? What figure is commonly quoted/accepted?  I think I recall it being 6% real?  That seems quite high.  Past performance does not mean much to me.  I'm not saying it is useless.  But it might not be the best info we've go...

Re: Cuba

For at least 20 years I've been advocating normalized relations.  It's absurd.  Thank God Obama got one right.  I realize the sanctions are still in place, but I hope the conservatives will set aside the anti-Obama politics to reduce or eliminate the sanctions.

Re: The Coming Great Transition: From Scarcity to Abundance

Yeah, the way solar's going, it's going to stand on its own without subsidies very soon. I'm very strongly considering changing my heat-generating appliances from natural gas to electricity when they need replacement as a sort of implicit bet on this trend, and adding solar panels which are really ...

Re: Midterm Election Central-Should We Send Obama A Message?

Reub, you make me chuckle.  I used to be just like you.  You are falling hook line and sinker for all the alarmist stuff that you read.  Each side specializes it that.  There is always a bogeyman that the propagandists use to get the rank and file excited, especially to have them send money.  Some t...

That's funny. :)

BTW, has the virus died down, or what?  I don't hear anything about it on the news now.

I think you're giving him too much credit.  He doesn't seem to be as motivated as his opponents think.
