Re: Affordable Care Act Woes (Obamacare)

Blue Cross sent us a letter saying we can keep our existing plan, or choose one of their new 2014 plans.  But if we choose a new plan, we will not be able to go back to the old one.  They don't say anything about costs of our old plan so I don't know what to think. Our current plan is a high deduct...

The saying going in was, Healthcare with the efficiency of the post office and the compassion of the IRS.
It's funny because it's true.

Re: Book Publishing & eBook pricing

RE,
I agree with all your points.  I do sympathize with the thought that value of any ebook is in the eye of the beholder.  But you've highlighted a big problem with the overall price bracket.

No, but when you play the tax shelter game, you have to realize you're not in the driver's seat.

Re: The Lessons of Japan’s Economy

I recall several months ago reading Bill Bonner's advice to buy Japanese stocks and sell the yen.  Looks like those were good trades, at least the first one.  Don't know about the yen.  His reasoning was that Abe laid it all out in plain view.

Re: Should I begin converting to Roth IRA?

Well, I sat down to take a fresh look at this, and realized I made a huge error in my interpretation of the RMD worksheet I looked at.  So my RMD would not be anywhere near as large as I first thought.  Given this, the Roth question is probably not a big deal either way.  I may edit out some of the ...

Book Publishing & eBook pricing

Since we have at least two authors here, this might be a good place to ask about ebook pricing. It seems to me that ebooks are a windfall for publishers; that there is a lot more profit in an ebook or a portfolio of them than in printed books.  It also seems that prices are absurdly high and there i...

Should I begin converting to Roth IRA?

I have ~$1,000,000 in a regular IRA.  My lovely wife has ~$350,000.  We are near the top of the 25% tax bracket, and have not been subject to AMT for the past few years, if that matters.  I am 55, she is 57.  We don't need the income from the IRA and therefore I suppose we would wait till 70 years o...

Re: Mac Airbook - No or later?

I am using an 11" Macbook Air right now.  I got it for travel and for sitting in different places around the house.  I love it.  A tablet like an iPad is great for reading but not so much for writing.

Re: Noflation

Ray Dalio called it Reflation. Its basically a credit crunch/de-leverage and probably the real reason the PP is suffering. Makes sense.  But we can't ignore the bubblish "prosperity" from all the actions of the central banks.  They are causing re-leveraging.  Are they masking the underlying conditi...
