Re: There seems to be an advantage to Roth conversion now until 12/31/2025

Recent downturn makes me glad I’ve waited till now to do my Roth conversion.

Re: Purpose of the PP

For me, the hope is that the PP avoids big losses and beats inflation by a decent amount. I have a big nest egg too, and the PP gives me a lot of peace of mind. Let's say a person has 10 million hard-earned dollars. Then imagine losing 4 or 5 million of them in a stock market downturn. You could say...

Re: The GOLD scream room

Somebody else posted recently to say that, if you are the type of person who likes to watch the stock market a lot, then there are probably much better strategies that you could be using than the PP -- things like dual momentum, etc. The PP is great for people who get busy with life and may not loo...

Re: The GOLD scream room

I don't watch prices like you people do. I can go months without looking. Might be one of the few things I do right.

1031 exchange EFT -> Bullion

A person with a gold storage company recommended to me that I consider a 1031 exchange from my holdings in the etf GLD, into bullion. (I had asked about some way to get gold from GLD to bullion. I was looking for some sort of direct transfer via GLD's hired gold clearing banks. ) A search here finds...

Re: Anyone using Hard Assets Alliance?

Last year, I questioned them about what they'd do if ordered to surrender a client's gold. They didn't seem to have a definitive answer. I would think if the gold is in a US vault, and there is a US court order against you, the gold can be seized to settle whatever judgement. If the gold is in the p...

Re: Anyone using Hard Assets Alliance?

Understood. The upside is no reporting complications. And no foreign transactions. Then again, with bullion in storage, reporting is not needed AFAIK.

Re: There seems to be an advantage to Roth conversion now until 12/31/2025

I've been basically retired since my early 40s. I built and sold a business. Building and running it stressed me a lot and burned me out, so I didn't have the appetite to do it again. I retained some modest rental commercial real estate until last year. Now I'm really retired.

Re: There seems to be an advantage to Roth conversion now until 12/31/2025

Sophie, thanks for pointing that out. I'll take another look at it. Honestly I was being more receptive to any justification for not doing it. Confirmation bias I guess. Filling up at least the 22% bracket does seem pretty safe. Actually the 24% bracket too. The closer I look, the more I think we wi...

Re: There seems to be an advantage to Roth conversion now until 12/31/2025

Upon further review, we will not be making any Roth conversions. We are in the 22% tax bracket now. When we start taking RMD's and social security, the extra taxable income will put us into the 24% bracket. To do conversions, we would try to fill up the 24% bracket for several years, and maybe still...

Same as Sophie. Except already retired.
