Re: Crypto convert

What have you found that the altcoins can do? I haven't looked into them much at all.

They all still feel like pyramid schemes to me.

The most disruptive feature I see is the portability. Wealth can now be moved across borders so much easier.

Fed’s Tools Showing Signs of Stress Against the Cash Onslaught https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-05-21/fed-s-tools-showing-signs-of-stress-against-the-cash-onslaught The longer the rate on the Fed’s facility remains at zero, money markets will either need to close funds to new or existing...

Re: Negative 1 and 3 Month Treasury Rates

1 month bill is staying negative and I bet it will close negative today.

I can't imagine a treasury money market fund won't start passing this along to fund holders now.

Do they have method in place to not break the buck?

Just listening to this kitco interview now. At the start it sounds like cash is what is undervalued.

Re: Interest rate insurance

I have a long stock portfolio (in addition to an HBPP) that I want to somehow secure against a big shock. I guess I can start layering in HBPP elements intermediate bonds, IAU. Is it because you like having all stock portfolio or because it is in account that only has access to stock? Or is it beca...

UFOs?

No new topic on UFOs?

Seems hard to deny that there are UFOs now:

I am of the mind that there are just many things we don't know about our world still or may not be able to understand. Not necessarily alien aircraft.

Re: Masks Revealed as the Political Symbol They Are (And Have Always Been)

For all you who play DnD or other d20 games, would you have your PC wear a ring even if it "only" gave you +1 (5%) to some saving throws? (Assuming had nothing better of course). I'll keep wearing mine inside / around crowds with strangers. I have eaten outside at restaurants, so not totally isolat...

Re: Interest rate insurance

Doesn't look like the smart people responded yet so I will at least continue the conversation. I also first heard about the pfix etf on that podcast. First thing I noticed was the .5% expense ratio and the 3% premium. That was definitely deterring in itself. After that, the way I figure. The underly...

So if nothing is undervalued against the dollar, does that mean the dollar itself is undervalued?

Re: I think it’s time to move into crypto

I only ever have 1-2% of my assets in fiat, but something tells me fiat will always be around somewhere long after these cryptos have gone the way of the dodo. What are we up to now, 10,000 different crypto coins? Now that sounds interesting. Only 1-2% in fiat? No cash or bonds? Just gold and stock...

It is only going to get worse. We should have started masking in 2010 when the death rate started trending higher. The projections now have us trending higher until 2050. It is hopeless.

I got out of LTT once I realized I was a peon in the grand scheme which may not be true for everyone here. Pretty sure that pertains to everyone here. Anyone who doesn't think they are a peon in the grand scheme of things, speak now or forever hold your peace. I can understand getting to a few mill...

Re: Rebalancing into more LTT

I got out of LTT once I realized I was a peon in the grand scheme which may not be true for everyone here. I am rotating all cash and bonds to EE bonds while I still can. If rates go way up then I can sell with no nominal loss and buy at higher yield. If rates go way down then I am locked in at 3.54...

Re: Portfolio Charts & Hedged Bonds

Small bit of googling fixed income options in Australia. I would be tempted by the 5 year term deposits from Judo Bank. I don't know if there is a catch but the government guaranteed rate is almost twice that of the 5 year bond.

I just realized with crypto being considered collectibles by IRS. That means maximum tax rate of 28% just like any other artwork. https://www.arcadiaappraisals.com/blog/2019/2/11/how-the-irs-taxes-art-related-activities Found interesting article on how artwork is taxed https://www.arcadiaappraisals....

In some ways does it feel like a lot of artificial inflation is being created? Labor shortage created by extended unemployment benefits. Gas shortage from pipeline outage. Car shortage from lack of rental cars and microchip production. Who knows what is going on with lumber but from what I understan...

Re: Rebalancing into more LTT

I love thinking up a contrarian: If the Fed isn't buying LTT to make a profit, the better thing may be to pretend those LTT don't exist exist. They will be holding forever I assume so they won't be causing price moves now that they have them. Here is a paradox, if the treasury only issued the amount...

So if I am reading that correct, you can convert your traditional IRA to dogecoin pay tax on your distribution plus 10% penalty and then not have to pay tax on your to the moon profits? So sounds you can have bullion in your possession legally but probably not worth doing that yourself as a layman. What is weird is the other collectables. It is almost like they are forcing you to do Roth conversion on your artwork since you don't pay tax when you sell but you still have to pay 10% ...
