Re: The GOLD scream room

Wow, Quicken doth say my gold ROI is > 0%. Physical gold, unfortunately, is still a bit underwater as some of the first ones I bought were for $1725/ounce. (Correction: Even my physical gold hit the break even point yesterday) Same here. Bought some gold back in 2012 for close to $1800, but overall...

Re: Rethinking the Permanent Portfolio

I am a bit of a history buff and currently I am listening to a podcast on Byzantine history. Earlier this week the podcast was talking about an emperor who printed/pressed gold coins that were 1/16 less than the previous standard, called them a different name, and forced everyone to accept them at ...

Re: The GOLD scream room

Gold has gone up a bit since I last checked, solid. But I'm finding it more awesome that 'prairie dogging' is a technical analysis term, since I'm more familiar with it as poop humor.

Re: Will Trump be Re-elected?

I'd like to imagine that if Tulsi Gabbard or Andrew Yang get selected by the Democratic Party, it would be a close election, but Trump would blow out any of the wokies, like Logharra Harris or Chewie Booker. I'm not very confident on anyone being "blown out" by Trump. But that's just my quasi-predi...

Re: BYND

I'm in the "find what works for you" camp. You need to eat sufficient protein, essential fatty acids, and vitamins/minerals, but outside of that you can make up the rest of your food however you want.

Re: BYND

In Meat: A Benign Extravagance, Simon Fairlie makes the point that some meat production is always going to be beneficial. First, because it closes some energy loops (especially pork), but also because meat provides a buffer for bad harvest years. Recommended reading. So if meat production is ruining...

Re: 3 years of PP returns

I'm getting 10.24% as the YTD nominal returns using VTI, VGLT, VGSH, and IAU. The PP is due for a good year since the CAGR has been trending lower than the 3-4% real returns I expect from it. Medium Tex said he'd reevaluate the PP if it had a 3 year negative real return: The question that I can't an...

Re: Stock scream room

I get where PS is coming from. Like a Stoic or Buddhist philosophy of not being too attached to your wealth, so just let it ride on 100% stocks and screw the risk. I obviously come at it from the other angle, why bet it all on one thing if you don't have to? I like the idea of stable, robust, genera...

Re: Immediate 5% across-the-board Mexican tariffs

Now we hear everything Mexico agreed to was already in negotiation and in the pipeline for a long while. Which makes the entire last week just a stunt. I just can't stop thinking... "he's trying to manufacture dips to buy". And doing very well. Well then Mexico could have implemented any of the ite...

Re: BYND

Finally found Beyond Burgers at the grocery today, and grilled a couple up for the GF and myself. They were delicious, albeit pricey at $12/lb. You can get locally pastured and slaughtered beef for much less than that around here. For me, the Beyond stuff is like cricket proteins. I'd give it a sho...
